Need a custom FL die - Who?

Sorry computer stupid!I don't like the bushing dies either.Once I figure out what neck diameter I want I call Forster. They will hone it out to what ever you want for 10 to 20 bucks, and those dies are straight!
I have two honed Forster FL dies (and others not) and they are great. I also use K&M expander mandrels for my Dasher if I want to adjust neck tension. Straight dies and reasonable cost. Barlow

Go to the archives, and look under Warner Tool Company full length die. Read the entire article. Expensive? Yes. Worth the money? Triple yes ;)

Why do you want to get rid of the bushings? They are nice for tuning.

They are fine when I only have a little neck clearance. When I have the amount my 284 runs, keeping the runout down becomes a chore.

At the same time, I haven't seen any difference in groups between .002 and .003 neck tension.

Have you seen a difference in groups between large and small runout?

I guess that depends on one's definition of small and large runout. My definition is dead straight and .002" TIR. Anything beyond that hasn't been fired for groups at anything beyond 100 yards.

For my rifle, I haven't been able to identify any major change in group size between dead straight and .002, but most of my testing has been at 1k and I typically get X-ring sized groupings at that range if I call the wind correctly. From my perspective, an out of round situation would likely cause vertical as well as horizontal. I look for those warning signs among the noise of other factors. In that there is a chance that I missed the information I'm looking for.

I don't, however, put every piece of brass across the indicator. I don't have time for that. I try to build processes that create high quality from the get-go. That way, I don't have to measure everything.
