Need 300 blackout subsonic load

a winner either way

Silver $$ Contributor
I have a friend who wants me to load him some up for is suppressed ar. He isnt worried about it cycling, just wants it to be subsonic. He brought me his brass, some Shooters world blackout powder, and 190 gr. subx.. any suggestions on where I should start? TIA michael

I have an original .300 Whisper (aka Blackout) built by my good friend & inventer of it, JD Jones. Have use it for over 40 years. I shoot only subsonic in it. Have killed 120+ deer out to 275 yards, several hundred groundhogs. I've been a bullet tester for Lehigh Defense. The best 2 bullets that drop deer instantly 90% of the time has been Sierra 220 gr. RN & Lehigh Defense 186 gr.Controlled Fracturing.
My personal load is 8.6 gr. WW296, but JD recommends starting at 11-12 gr., decreasing 1/2 gr. until the round is "quiet".
There are new sub loads, i.e. SubX, but I've not read any data that's made them equal or superior to the 2 rounds I mentioned.
Interestingly, I dropped a very nice 8 pt. with the Sierra at 240 yds. in a driving rain/wind storm with a high shoulder shot DRT! Bullet hit exactly where I aimed.

Just treat Shooters World as a hot lot of 1680. Drop charge weight about half a grain from 1680 data.

The H110 will be quieter, cleaner. But more of a challenge to get cycling easy if it’s carbine gas. Pistol gas, it’s very easy. Try both, accuracy and reliability will sort out the best choice for you.

I have be getting good results with Lil Gun.
Many hate it, burns barrels, I use with 115-220 grain bullets.

I’m on the road, I found a good load using accurate #9 and the 190 Sub X, also the LeHigh defense 186 grain, it’s expensive buts it lethal at subsonic speeds. I’ll update when I get home..

I was using CFEBLk, still have a few hundred rounds I need to use with that powder loaded, it works but it’s dirty. I also tried Winchester 296 with good results and AA1680 but Accurate #9 was what I liked the most.

Search "Johnny's Reloading Bench" on YouTube. Lots of load info for 300 Blk for the AR. including velocities and grouping/cycling.

Not sure what size barrel you're loading for, but I'd do a ladder somewhere around 10gr, 10.3gr, 10.6gr, 10.9gr, 11.2gr.

Shooter's World Blackout should cycle the bolt without issue.
