al and alex are good guys and know a bit, BUT MY BLOWN out 30br cases with a 1.545 length and a .010 wall have .035" more case capacity . there is a benefit to blowing out vs expanding.

Alex, my 30BR's were all 1.5 degree leade and worked well. I don't mind a freebore of no more than .020.
Good shootin'.-Al
How do you figure it has .035 more case capacity?-Al
...the neck has volume specifically if you trim to 1.51 and I trim to 1.545..its .035" more...
-Capacity is a measurement of volume
-.035 is a numeric and has no volume value
A fired 1.510 long 30BR case holds an average of 40.8 gr. of water. A neck that is .035 longer on an identical 30BR case will only hold the larger volume of the .035 longer neck.
Small points to be sure. But these guns are built on small points.

Hello Al, at least the neck won;t break offBut of all of 'em, I'm proudest of this one:

Ken Howell provides in his Custom Cartridges tome a useful little sidebar ".308 bullet displaces 18.84 grains per inch" of H2O, so your .035" adds 0.66 grs to the case capacity. One can claim "Almost a whole grain!" and not be dead wrong.yes I did not calculate the VOLUME of a .035" longer neck.
that does not change the FACT that a .035"(1.545" case length) longer neck has more volume than a shorter case (1.510")
I have to settle lt30 at 36 gr to make room for my bullets even with a 1.545" case.
I was just trying to point out there is some use for that longer neck.
The problem with small increases in volume is that they increase volume! You increase volume to make room for more powder, but increasing volume takes more powder to get back to where you started. You need to make enough of a change to actually see the benefit. Ideally you do it in a way that also handles pressure better. JMO
What do you call that Bulgarian wrestler of a cartridge, Al?But of all of 'em, I'm proudest of this one:

Your 112s seem to shoot just under 3200 fps. My main goal was just to add the 40 degree shoulder and not trim.Alex, approximately, how much is gained by, I presume, "Acklyizing" to 30BR? RG

I deserved that answer!Your 112s seem to shoot just under 3200 fps. My main goal was just to add the 40 degree shoulder and not trim.
