NEED 1000 YARD ADVICE !

So I’m finally going to get to shoot at 1000 . I’ve only shot 500 before so I’m open to advice . 6BR , 28” and 30” barrels , 109 Hybrids on way , Reloder 15 and CCI 450 .

All advice wanted !

Thx

Mark

I'd suggest you use the 30" barrel, find out what your muzzle velocity is and use a ballistics program like JBM that has a bullet library and will plot the trajectory for you. Be sure to enter the approximate temperature/humidity and elevation for the range facility you will be shooting on. It has been some time since I loaded for the 6BR Norma but about 29 +/- grains of R15 should be about right for that bullet. The usual caution applies: start below and work up watching for excess pressure.
Finally, have someone who knows how to spot a bullet trace look through a spotting scope behind and above you. An experienced spotter can get you on paper if there is wind/mirage that is diverting the bullet.
Shooting at 1000 yards can be thrilling and humbling. Attention to NATURAL POINT OF AIM is essential, follow through and consistency as well.

The 103 Vapor trail and 105 VLD shoot great at 1000. Some have some luck with 105 Hybrid, but that bullet seems to be a little harder to tune and doesn't work in all rifles. I believe the twist is why they don't. Good luck and have fun. As mentioned above, having a spotter behind the shooter to spot vapor trail is good to help you get on. Matt

I’m hoping the 109 works . It’s all I could get my hands on .

The 109's hold up very well at 1K out of my BRX. I not sure the straight BR has enough capacity. I'd be looking at the BRX or Dasher with a 7" or 7.5" twist.

What velocity are u getting with BRX and 109s ? I have heard of guys running dasher at 6br speeds because they can’t reach next node .

In the BRX I can go as high as 3050 but it likes to shoot around 2980. That's in a 31" barrel.
I remember in one of my barrels getting 2900 with 105 at 29g Reloder 15 . Max is 29.9. But I’ve read where guys were using 30.5 and up but I’m not going to ruin my brass .

The difference between 500 and 1000 is just drop and wind. It's not a magical distance. If your rifle will keep bullets supersonic all the way to 1000yrds then you can hit 1000yrds on a target sized appropriately to your rifle's accuracy potential. Step 1, don't overthink it. A bipod or front bag and rear bag, a dope table and a scope that can dial enough up. I teach children to do this on their own (without anyone telling them what to do or dialing their scope for them) every year. They don't seem to have trouble. No reason a grown adult should have trouble except by overthinking things so much that they confuse themself.
