Necking down with bushing dies

Hi guys
Just some info on necking down with bushing dies ?
I have a rem 700 in 17fireball
And I'm using rem cases for my reloading
But not real happy with them .
I just want to know if I can neck down the lapua 221fireball cases ?
To 17fireball ? with my redding type s match bushing die by changing budgets
As I go ? If so what mushers do I need ?
Thanks

I was able to do it using the seater die first, followed by a trip through the bushing die with my chosen bushing.
Done the same for 6br to 22br and 22 hornet to 17 ackley hornet. Although the 17 needed fireforming

I first reloaded 17/221 in 1969 using Ackley's data. I found that annealing followed by 2 step trimming and expanding or even drilling the new cases followed by fire forming creates cases that last for several reloads. Best to work on at least 100 cases. Now why bother when 17 fireball cases are available. Caution, check the brass length and for splitting after each shooting. I discovered that IMR4227 powder has given me dime sized 5 shot 100 yard groups with SAKO L461 on mesquite stock and my new pet Thompson Center maple thumb hole stock, both 19" BBL. Very satisfied. Great for Turkey and Deer too. 4227 powder is very under rated as far as I'm concerned also use it for 45/70.

The bushing dies did`t work so well for me......

I went to a 20 Vartarg full length die, then to the 17 Fireball full length die to get positive results.

Try it and see how it works for you before spending the money on new dies, some use the Bullberry forming die.....i do not have one, so i can`t comment on it.

Good luck.

I like the Bullberry forming dies I use them to make 20VT, 20SCC out of 223 brass and 17 Badger brass from 30 carbine.
