Neck Wall Thickness Gauges

I am looking to get something to measure neck wall thickness. I had a sinclair digital neck micrometer and sold it awhile back. I just did not like it and was not comfortable using it. What are you guys using and like. I have the Sinclair catalog here in front of me and i see a NECO concentricity & Wall Thickness Gauge and a Sinclair case neck sorting tool. Anyone have 1 of these? If so what is your opinion. Looking for something accurate, reliable and easy to use. If it has more than 1 function do they work like they should or do you think it is best to get a item that only performs the task it is designed to do. Any comments or info would help alot. Thanks..........DAN............

I actually personally prefer the Sinclair standard micrometer (MIC-3, Which is pictured in the post above) over the digital model. It is my choice in neck wall thickness tools. It uses a Starrett micrometer head which is smooth and accurate.

+ 1 on the Sinclair MIC-3. Fast in use and results to 0.0001". The Sinclair neck sorting tool is a very handy device for doing a 'quick and dirty' case-batching exercise, but gives nowhere near the precision of the MIC-3. It's horses for courses - they do different jobs.

I've tried the Lyman neck thickness micrometer too. It reads to 0.0001" and gives good results comparing the readings to those on the MIC-3, but is not as easy or quick in use. It does cost a lot less though and would do the job for those on a budget or who only measure a limited number of cases over the course of a year.

Take a look at the K&M Neck Turner. You can attach a dial indicator to it to measure neck thickness as well as turn your brass. You can also back the cutting tool away for measuring purposes only. I use one and it works great. I use the vice to hold the tool as it is small and will wear your hand out for extended periods of time. I also put the shell holder/power adapter in a variable speed drill instead of using the hand held method.

You'll need the Neck Turner Complete $74 , the correct neck turner pilot $11, the dial indicator $45 (which can be used with a concentrency guage) a vice and a variable speed drill.. You won't need the expander mandrel if you measure before you resize the brass. They also offer a complete line of expander mandrels if disired. There is a complete line-up of products at the website above. When compaired to Sinclair sorter, the cost is very close but you get a turner in the deal. My 2 cents.....
