Neck turning.

So I have been having problems with my loads and so far I have not been satisfied with the accuracy. My brass is lapua Palma brass. When I bought this brass I did what I have done with all my brass fl size, trim, skim neck turn( no-turn chamber) weight sort, etc. The cases have now been fired 6x. I have never been satisfied with the accuracy with these cases. So I started checking the case neck thickness the other night and found that all of my cases of up to .0025 from side to side I have now turned 60 of them down to make them about 90% even @ .0141 With that much cut off the neck in a no turn chamber will that over work or cause issues when I fire them. A fired case measures .344 and a loaded case measure .336.

There is a "no turn" neck reamer for most all .308 brass. However, the "Palma Brass" is "generally" about 2 thousandths thicker. So it is possible your chamber may be on the tight side, even though you have a no-turn chamber. Try cutting them back to 13 thousandths neck wall thickness and see if that does not help considerably..

Not in the Palma. But in in lake city brass I did shot great but ended up skim turning those as well accuracy improved but those cases did not have as much variance in thickness and only had to be turned do to .0155 thicknes making the loaded round around .339. I've noticed that the lapua cases I've got had thinner necks than other brands I have got hornady, winchester, federal, lake city.

Before I built a "Skip Design" DIY annealing machine, I suffered cracked necks with both turned and unturned brass.

Now I anneal every time, I don't count how many times a case is fired, and I no longer suffer from cracked necks. That goes for unturned cases as well as some with pretty darn thin necks, all fired in "no turn" chambers. The first sign of trouble, after many many reloading, is worn out primer pockets.

Do you anneal every time or at least frequently?

Yes I anneal. Another shooting friend on mine told me to check for a carbon ring in the chamber of my rifle. So I'm going to check that out.

I shoot .335 loaded rounds (turned lapua palma) in a .342 neck chamber. It's a little looser than I'd like, but I haven't had any issues with split necks. I do not anneal.
