Neck Turning?

I've got a couple custom rifles and a few factory rifles. None of them are tight necked chambers, I was wondering If I was doing a bad thing by turning the necks just enough to true it up a little and I'm running them through redding standard dies after there all done. I haven't had any problems with accuracy or high ES or SD. any comments will greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hell no, I do it! It's not just about fitting to a tight chamber, it's about consistent neck tension and eliminating the neck from being out of round. Your ES/SD will only improve by doing it and it'll help eliminate some fliers. Besides, what else do you have to do while watching tv?

I, too, neck turn. I especially pay attention to bullet tension in a FIRED case. If the bullet has a lot of resistance in a fired case it tells me the neck is too thick. It takes very little removal of brass to get it right.

Another reason for turning necks is to get longer life from the brass. Since you are using standard dies you will feel the expander ball pull thru the neck. Sometimes you may even hear a little squeeking sound. This is caused by the expander ball pulling thru the neck and streching it. By turning the necks just a little you will have a little extra room in the die neck. The result is the brass won't strech as much.

Good shooting, Jim

Cleaning up approximately 80% of the case neck for a minimum or standard chamber is always a good practice.
