Neck turning tools

Gentlemen, and ladies, I am looking for input on neck turning tools and neck micrometers or other measuring devices. Any recommends and stay away froms would be much appreciated. 6 br, all Lapua brass. Also advice on to turn or not to turn, pro/con etc. Thank you.

I like Sinclair's products, as much for their availability (spare parts) and utility as for their price.

Whether to turn necks or not depends on your goals and point of view: if you want to have confidence you've done everything you can to make up accurate loads, that with your equipment and shooting style will give you the greatest predictability on targets, neck turning is a worthwhile endeavor.

Even if your barrel's chamber neck isn't "tight" by contemporary 6BR standards, even though Lapua brass is considered to be "just fine thanks" out of the box, turning new factory brass necks to even up the neck wall thickness makes a contribution to even neck tension which will have a positive effect on consistent performance.

Some folks consider it not worth their time, as with primer pocket uniforming & de-burring or sorting cases by weight or volume. You likely won't be able to determine that until you try it for yourself.

Recently replaced my K&M outside neck turner with the new Sinclair NT-4000 and am very pleased with it. .272" no-turn necks do not get turned. .265" tight, fitted necks get turned down to .010". Out of the box Lapua 6BR measures .0135" to .014" with my tubing mic and do not turn.

Gassman, I'm using the K&M turner and just added one of Joel Pendergraft's tool holders for it which makes it more comfortable to hold. I'm satisfied with the tool for my purposes. For measuring I use a Mitutoyo digital tubing micrometer. I used to use the Sinclair but with the Mitutoyo I was able to easily make a rest for the case mouth so that I could measure the same relative location on the neck on all cases (I couldn't do that with the Sinclair, or perhaps didn't give it enough thought).
