Neck turning brass. What's the max?

I'm going to be expanding 6.5x284 brass to .284 and turning necks on new Lapua 6.5x284 brass. The neck walls are pretty consistent now at .015. I believe my chamber is .314. How much turning can I get away with to have sufficient room for bullet release? This is the first caliber I will be turning for. Thanks

Your loaded round is coming out to the same diameter as your chamber neck specs. Turning to .014" will give you .002" total clearance. .013" will give you .004" clearance. .0135 will give you .003".

Depends on what your use is and clearance you want.

I would neck up a few pieces and seat bullets I will be shooting and measure the necks on a loaded round before I started,,I would want that at .3105-.3110

Good catch, mr.big, yes he will need to get some actual seated rounds done, to get accurate numbers. Thanks

He will also require a good ball micrometer for measuring neck thickness.

What Mr BIG said. Ive done it with out a ball micrometer but I wish I had had one. I think a tubing mic is even better.

I try for 3-4 thou clearance.
