neck turn once fired brass

hey guys,

has anyone ever tried turning once fired brass?

I have some 338 lapua brass that is real thick in the neck and could benefit from being turned..but havent been able to find any reading on whether or not it can/should be done?

anyone have any experience with 1x fired turning?

I turn a second time. It appears to iron out some of what I call the turning marks. I also re-turned after the sixth firing and it cleaned up the neck shoulder junction. I run the cutter into the shoulder fairly deep but after awhile the brass flows back onto the neck.

dantiff2,

thanks for the response, actually I meant should I turn 1x fired for the first time? I have a bunch of 1x fired stuff that was just primed and loaded, I am wondering if its ok to turn it for the first time even though its already been fired...everything I read said to turn brass before you use it..

Panzer,
I actually prefer to turn 1x fired brass. It's more uniform after firing and sizing once, the shoulder is in the same place on each case) and you can trim the necks more uniformly. Usually more concentric too. I size it without the expander button in the die, use the expandiron to epand the neck, then turn it. I get lower neck wall variation that way than on virgin brass,I don't think the initial sizing on virgin brass makes for very concentric cases - which can affect the turn)and I get the same 'nick' into the case shoulder every time.
