Most of the time its not but testing would be the only way to know for sure.

Not for AR's, not for a 204 Ruger I have. The 204R bolt gun I have, I have tried up to 0.006(with boattail bullets) still shoot very good groups.

Too much for what? Are you talking about benchrest, PRS, hunting, plinking, etc? And, what is your concern if it is too much?

Probably not. But whether it works well for you, it just depends as other factors play into whether it's good or not (e.g. neck wall thickness; amount of work hardening or annealing; how clean the necks are; how much or what kind of lube that might be used; any combination of those).

Some rifles shoot better with less but in my experience .003 + is better. In good conditions start with .002 and work up and see what prints best on paper. I am assuming it’s a bolt gun if not it’s probably not enough.

Yes a bolt gun useing 6 CM lapua brass necking down for 22 CM an just cleaning up the necks and necks are still around .012 after clean up . Thanks again guys for input.

I suppose things change also some before a person does first anealing process.

Like others have said, depends, however I see it as neck tension is "release tension" S/D. E/S.
