Neck tension testing

I want to share my neck tension results and get your thoughts on them, especially from @Alex Wheeler and @tom
Maybe even @Tod Hendricks can add his opinion as he did a lot of testing on this topic.
I don’t have a lot of experience with this type of testing, but here’s a quick rundown of how I did it:

Cartridge: 284 Shehane (0.321" neck, no turn chamber)
Brass: Lapua, 0.315" loaded round
Bullet: 184gr Berger Hybrids
I used the same sizing process for all three cases:

Bushing: 0.310"
Case 1: Carbide mandrel 0.284" (used twice)
Case 2: Carbide mandrel 0.282" (used twice)
Case 3: Neolube only
I’ve attached the results and AMP press data in a PDF (3 pages).

I’d appreciate your feedback and suggestions. I plan to repeat the test. What should I change in my test?

Thanks!

@antunRC

Any chances you could post them to show up as a photo here. My browser doesn't like the download from here.

Thanks, Tom

I can tell you I think it matters even more now that I've played with something outside of the same Ole same Ole!
Test is done at 985 yards

I would measure what the 282 mandrel created for measurement before and after seating, and include some that are both sides of that amount of "holds" without the mandrel thing or the lube thing. If it was mine anyway, and that's all I had to go on. What kind of "holds" range were these antun?

I'm just preparing to test one more time once I get time to go to the range.
Finished brass prep:
Case 1: Carbide mandrel 0.284" (used twice) - ID check - pin 0.283" minus - pin size 0.2828" (brass ID)
Case 2: Carbide mandrel 0.282" (used twice) - ID check - pin 0.281" plus - pin size 0.2808" (brass ID)
Case 3: only 0.310" bushing, no mandrel, no lube - ID check - pin 0.280" minus - pin size 0.2798" (brass ID)

Don't be afraid to simplify this into simply shooting bushing vs bushing vs bushing, such as ( 310v311v312 ).

It is great to keep track of measurements for the simple reasons of diagnosis later on.....when the wheels come off and you need to track down what changed.

But, mostly this really can be quite simple and the combo just picks a favorite bushing.

Thank you, @tom . With so many options and testing methods, it’s easy to get confused. I appreciate the information. I like your advice "Keep it simple."

Great advice, I do the same, except mandrel vs mandrel
