Neck tension starting point

Tensions is a cute term that is used by reloaders when they do not understand what is going on, something like 'fire form', I chamber a round, pull the trigger and then eject a fired case, reloaders pull the trigger and then become 'fire formers'. I form first and then fire.

Why do you feel the need to try to insult everyone? Do you really think you are that much better than everyone on this forum? Do you have any accolades on any level that would be accessible by all of us 2nd rate reloaders to reinforce your claims of superiority? Awards tracked anywhere we could see to support your one of a kind reloading skills? Please provide us a way to back up your claims, otherwise your just insulting us and alienating yourself.

Agree with Boyd that neck tension and powder combo go hand and hand. IMHO the only measure of true results are on the target. So start out like others have suggested with a .002” smaller diameter neck and then test from there. But your results are just that, your results. That combination may not work for anyone else or for you again in the future with a different barrel.

With two cases resized to have a .002" interference fit, one with .006" thick neck wall and the other .012" thick, will the circumferential stress case necks put on bullets be the same for each?

I make no effort to get around bullet hold, there is only one way to measure bullet hold and that is in pounds. It can be talked to death, it can be described in lofty terms but when measuring bullet hold there is no other way to measure bullet hold but in pounds. There is no conversion for tensions to pounds or pounds to tensions.

I make no effort to get around bullet hold,
You don't need to. Case necks get 100% all the way around bullets holding them without external forces. There are 360 tension points around the neck spaced exactly one degree apart on its inside.

The only real problem is getting those tension points in the neck aligned with the bullet's 360 force receptor points. Sometimes you need to twist seated bullets a few to several minutes of arc to align them.
