If you "shoulder bump and neck size", sooner or later you WILL have to full length resize as the case starts getting snug in the chamber.
Never bothered with a case gauge. Your brass has to fit YOUR chamber. And by shoulder bumping and neck sizing, you brass doesn't get a chance to grow in OAL. If it doesn't grow, no trimming needed.
If the bolt will close on your fired case, neck size, reload and go shooting.
Got BR brass with 20 to 25 + mid range load firings on them, primer pockets still snug/tight and still no trimming needed.
Measure your chamber and use that spec to decide if you NEED to trim or not.
