Neck sizing only question

Sorry, I don't understand this. How does neck sizing affect headspace? You never had to FL size?

Neck sizing does not affect head space, and my 223 has consistent 0.0015 without FL sizing after numerous reloading. This is the only situation where this has worked and I would not consider it for larger cartridges.

^^ It's difficult to imagine brass that doesn't act like, well, brass.

I think I will bow out of this now, too meta-physical for me.

I have a box of Lee Collet Dies, Various neck size dies and expander balls. We learn as we go.

Thanks for all the comments. As much as some believe this to be a settled issue (should f/l Everytime), there appears to be a group that finds it acceptable to neck size only small capacity cases that aren't loaded hot. I've run several cases through the neck sizer and not getting any spring back. I may run a small batch for each gun and see how they chamber. If it looks like problems likely to arise, then I will retool to body sizing. My accuracy requirements are minute of prairie dog, not bug holes. Both of the guns do that well.

Great. You evaluation is spot on but I will say I had great luck in 223 and 308 so the small cartridge assumption might be iffy. There are benefits and drawbacks to both methods and there are issues within the methods based on the dies that are used.

I will say that my personal opinion on neck sizing is the Lee Collet Die is probably the best to use for neck sizing.
