Neck sizing 300 WSM

I am having issues neck sizing for a 300 WSM.
I am new to this and have no experience, so going off what I have been told, that I can use a FL die to neck size my cases.
What I am finding is that to get the cases to chamber, I have to run the die down to where it is FL. sizing the case. If left up to where it is only resizing the neck 1/2 - 3/4, the case with not chamber.
Anyone have the same experience?

Think about a tube of toothpaste, when you squeeze it with the cap on it has to go someplace....
When you try to neck size with a full length die your squeezing it out of shape....
Get a good custom fit full length die and be done with it.... They will be the same all the time....

Have a Savage 12 FVSS in .300 WSM as one of my F Class rifles. Use Redding F/L bushing dies to resize. Bump the shoulder .001 every sizing and control neck tension with the bushing. The bushings size about 80% of the length of the neck.

You can buy the F/L bushing die separately from Sinclair if you are happy with your seating die.

I also tried to neck size my 300 wsm. I started with just a neck sizing die. My rounds would not chamber, I then had to go and buy a redding body sizing die. I gave up on just neck sizing that cartridge.

What you are describing is the proper way to set up your FL die. Adjust a little at a time until the brass will chamber with just a hint of resistance. I reload for this round as well, but only in a hunting rifle. But in my experience doubt you would be happy with just a neck sizing die.

"Get a good custom fit full length die..."

I am using a full length die.
I was told that neck sizing was a better way to go rather than FL sizing every time, I was also told that I could neck size with a FL die, which is what I am having trouble doing.

When you say "custom fit" what are you suggesting?
I have an RCBS FL die. Is this not sufficient enough?

Rebar,
What you are actually doing - using a F/L size die to neck size - is really "partial F/L Sizing", and it probably won't work on a 300WSM, especially if you have a fairly loose factory chamber. It might work on a tight custom chamber.

To elaborate on the post above referencing a tube of toothpaste - think about what happens in your sizing die. The sidewalls of the case first contact the sides of the die squeezing the case inwards. Brass, being elastic, has to "flow" somewhere, so the case gets longer until the shoulder of the case contacts the matching shoulder of the die and resets it to proper domension. The way you are using the die, you're never getting the contact at the shoulder, so the cases end up longer from base to shoulder - probably too long to chamber. I've tried this with two different 300WSM's and found the best approach was to set the dies to bump the shoulder back about 2 thousands every loading.

Maybe try a Forster Precision Plus Bushing Bump Neck Sizer Die, measure ur neck and order a bushing .003-.004 smaller at first
