Neck Bushings

In the past I have always used Reddings Titanium Nitride coated bushings and I am starting to wonder if they are worth the extra cost. With buying multiple bushing to work up a load am I just better off buying the uncoated version?

I also use Redding To coated bushing as you.

Nothing to make me change to other things due to success result of smooth sizing.

You don't need to buy multiple bushings for load development.
Bullet grip is adjusted with length of neck sizing (not diameter)

Okay, so with a bullet seated into the neck I have a neck diameter of .336. My bushing is stamped .334 but when I mic my neck after sizing it is .33320. Now I understand I can partially size the neck to adjust bullet grip but how much do I want to reduce the neck diameter.

I too have always used the titanium coated ones but one time I needed one for a .223 and Sinclair was out. I bought the uncoated one - knowing I could always get the more costly one later. I'm still waiting for signs of wearing out. After around 12,000 rounds, still looks O.K. and no accuracy issues I can attribute to the bushing. I wouldn't hesitate to use the uncoated ones in the future as I don't load anything as much as I do the .223's.

1thou under loaded is sufficient depending on the bullet bearing seated and length of sizing. Beyond 1.5thou you're only increasing seating forces which can mess with consistency in seating of uncoated bullets.
I imagine your fired neck diameters approach ~.340 and this would explain the oversizing result(to .333) from your bushing. They get less predictable results beyond 5thou downsizing, but work ok still. You're currently oversizing by 1thou IMO.

Mikecr,

My neck is .339 and my fired cases are ~.338. I am going to order a .335 bushing and see what I come up with. Thanks for your replies.
