Any of you guy's that are shooting comp at Butner, Please Chime in!!
I have spent the last year preparing to shoot some comp some where. I have seen on the Northstate gun club site that they are having the state F class champs this weekend. I thought about attending this match. (As a spectator).
I'm interested in F open, FTR, and Bench Rest. How ever I have had my fill of sitting on my duff, and reading about matches, or trying to figure out how things are run or the do and don'ts!
I have never shot any kind of comp ever. I have shot all my life and have learned alot. However I feel that I have learn about all that I am going to learn on my own! Meaning Reading books asking questions on the net and then trying to put the things that I have read, or learn into practice. Many of those things have really paid off, and I have learned a lot. But until I get into some pier pressure or some kinda comp, to give me some kind of direction I'm about dead in the water here!
In other words I would love to shoot this match. But!! AND that's A big butt! I don't want to show up at the state champs to shoot and start trying to figure out where I'm suppose to go. What I'm suppose to do, as well how I'm suppose to conduct myself, as to giving respect to other shooters, and following the rules of the range. Again I have no Idea of what I'm doing as far as shooting a match! How things are run? When shooters are to go to the line? How to set up and get ready, but not disrepect anyone? This is the reason for wanting to go as a spectator only. I have many questions, but I don't want to distract a shooter with a lot of newbie questions when he maybe trying to get ready to shoot for the champs! As well after a shooter has shot his relay an may be dissussing his preformance with another shooter, I think it would be rude for me to walk up and start asking a bunch of dumb questions about things. I have a lot to learn. I'm really not worried about my ablity to shoot as much as what to do and how to act or when to ask question or not to, at a match? I'm trying to get into the game without disrespecting anyone or steping where I don't belong? I need some kind of advice as to when to ask questions or what to keep my eyes on? So that I can learn how to prepare as well set up and not disrespect others?
Thanks for any advice that you can give!!
