Nationals after Raton

Just out of curiosity, I'm in my 3rd year of f class, and last year was my first nationals. Why not Camp Perry or Atterbury? I think both places can handle it just fine.

They had perry scheduled once but changed it for some reason.

The FCNC schedule gets set for about 4 or 5 yrs at a time, the club/range that will host it has to request that it be held at their facility. The current schedule 19, 20, 21, and I think 22, was agreed to about a yr or so ago.

Camp Perry - nobody has stepped up to run it, and if you have shot there (I have) do you really want the FCNC run there? I shot the F class matches that were held there in '12 and in '14. If it is run the samw way I don't. It is convenient to the shooters in the east, but it is the slowest match I've ever in which participated, and the format of the NRA National matches it totally different than the FCNC. The range facilities are certainly capable of handling the match. If there was an organization that wanted to run it there and put their hat in the ring for something past '22 it could happen, but who is going to step up and run it?

Atterbury - Camp Atterbury came in to prominence in sling shooting last yr when the NRA and the CMP got into a pissing match and decided to get a divorce and the NRA moved all the NRA National Matches from Camp Perry to Atterbury.

I understand that the IN ANG has stepped up and made some improvements at the range to support the NRA Nationals there. If the range has 100 firing points and can handle 400 participants (I have never shot there) and the club at Atterbury could certainly put Atterbury in the mix in the future, but when the current schedule was established it wasn't ready for it and was far as I know it was not proposed.

@johnnyi where would you park everyone, and how long would it take for 16 relays? ;)

Wade, if the schedule is set up 4-5 years in advance, (which I'm sure it is,) it's still a deep dark secret. My guess, based on the past, would be for 2019-Raton, 2020&2021-Phoenix, 2022&2023-Lodi.

But if you know where to find the real schedule, please let us know. We promise not to reveal where it came from.

Denys, I recall that when I read that Raton was the location for 18/19 that Phoenix was the location for 20/21. Beyond that I'd expect that if a location like Atterbury wanted to get into the mix it would be an option. It will probably be another 3 yrs before there are any serious discussions at the NRA level.

Yeah, at that point I'll be shooting Grand Senior or stuff out of my nose and ears.

Phoenix, eh? Back on the griddle. Maybe they'll have portable air conditioner units for November.

I am pretty certain that the decision has not been made for after Raton, and the decision is made for 2 years at a time. I think Atterbury is a high contender for 20 and 21.

I know when Phoenix had it in 14 and 15 I sat down with the NRA Competition Director at SHOT Show in 13 (Phoenix was trying to get the '15 World Palma) and was basically told we would get the F Class nationals instead for 14 and 15.

Do visiting teams get a vote? We'll be due for another America Match in 2020 and I think we'd all appreciate someplace less rainy!

Does Atterbury have E targets?
They have some, they use them for their club matches, but I don't think they have enough to run a big match. They ran the NRA Nationals this yr, and I may be wrong but I don't think it was on their Silver Mt. targets.

At the nationals this year they used manual targets. This year they used white facing targets vs. the tan
