N565 vs h1000

In my 7mm Sherman Short mag, it was nearly identical. However, even though it is a "double based" powder designed for additional "energy / speed", it could not compete velocity-wise with H1000! That was and still is a puzzle to me. But that is of little consequence to me as it did not shoot nearly as well as H1000. To answer your question, it is very close indeed to H1000..

WOW! I am glad to see the Sherman catch on! My load with the 184 Hybrid is 61.1grs. With H1000 I went up to 63.0grs with no pressure. The velocity up there was 3015. I went up to 62.7 with N565 and stopped as the accuracy was not nearly as good as H1000 with any charge weight! Here is a very interesting observation: The other day I tried a "primer test" to see what actually would transpire under real-world conditions. At 61.1 the velocity hovered in the 2990-3002 f.p.s. range with 3 primers 1.) Fed 210s, 2.) CCI-BR2s, and 3.) Fed 215GMs. The 210s had a vertical of about 1/2 inch but a horizontal spread of 1.5 inches. The BR-2s had the exact opposite! They has a 1/2 inch horizontal and a 1.3" vertical. Now for the surprise, the 215GMs shot a beautifully round 7/8" group. Think about this: "The Fed 215s are touted as one of, if not the hottest primers in use for even the super mags!" However, they actually shot a few f.p.s. SLOWER than either of their "non-magnum" counterparts! Who would have ever thought? You will notice an anomaly here: Going UP in charge weight, even past a full grain of powder, produced very little gain in velocity. With a slow powder like H1000 in that case, it may have reached a "saturation point" if you will, well in advance of where you may have expected.

I'm going to try that powder (N565) behind a Nosler 140gr RDF bullet . What should my starting load be ?
