Looking for feed back on N550 powder with;
6.5x47 139gr
260 rem 142 smks
Pros and cons .
Thx
Patch thank you for reply .With respect to the 47L , a great powder for squeezing an extra 80-100fps out of that case..
A double based powder that is somewhat finicky when temp swings are abound.
Clean burning when at near max volumetric efficiency.
Can be a bit harsh on bbl life as compared to single based powders in the same class such as H4350 etc.
Personally a favorite powder choice of mine in this caliber... Harder on barrels during fast strings , but barrels are a commodity just as are bullets and powders.
With a freebore of between .160"- .180+" you will see a charge of between 39-41grns of powder in a bolt gun will be close to your top end node (working up to that of course)
I found it to shoot very well and fast. But it was very sensitive to temperature changes. Hunting or shooting in colder weather mabey . It is not my choice . LarryMy first 6.5 x 47 that I used for actual F-Open competition, shot a 130gr Berger VLD over 40.1grs of VV N550. It was VERY accurate, was speeding along at 2970, and ate my barrel like candy. I got only 1800 rounds from it. BUT it was accurate and velocity was "up there".. Would I use it again? Not for F-Open. Hunting or some other shooting discipline where long shot strings are nonexistent, it would be a superior choice.
