N160 and .284 Win loads?

I shoot .284 Win for LR Fclass. My 30" barrel shoots both H4350 and H4831SC very well with 177/180g class bullets. Due to the cool nature and burning rate of N160, it seems like it would be a good powder for the .284 Win.

Anyone shooting N160 with 180s in straight .284 Win and if so, any load data you could pass along with velocities?

Thanks in advance.

N165 suits 284 and 180s better than N160 IMHO. 57gn N165 in Lapua brass gives them 2,825 fps in my rifle (30-inch Bartlein), but you can go higher with compressed loads. It's even cooler burning than N160 at 3,500 KJ/Kg specific energy compared to 3,620. (H4831 is rated at 3,870.)

No doubt about it though - many users get better results in this cartridge from H4831/4831sc than anything else.

I use N160 all the time in straight .284" Winchester, my pet load is 56.5 grains in front of a Berger 180g Hybrid, cci large br primer for 2940 fps.

Thanks for the information guys.

So I have one load of 51.5g and one guy shooting 56.5g, seems like a wide difference. At least it gives me a good idea where to start and work up to a load.

Laurie, good information about N165, I will have to look into that a bit as well.

In your guys experience, how temperature sensitive is either one of those powders (N160/165)?

Thanks.
