N150 Gamble...

The issue that tipped me to VV140 vs VV150 is the emailer kernel size of 140. The smaller kernel size allows u to measure to a smaller target. 150 is harder due to the larger kernel size.
Good information. I was also trying to decide between the two.
I have found that thrown charges from my Harrells are at least as accurate as weighed, and smaller grain size is important in small cases.

Those who don't think it matters are entitled to their personal opinion.

If it meters easier, then that is a + factor for me. The BR is a small case and small changes make a difference. Suit yourself.
Metering well sure is helpful. Especially if you’re preparing 100 rounds for a PRS match and they need to be high quality.

It sounded like you were concerned about hitting the total charge weight because each individual kernel weighs a little more. That to me is not significant.

U will find that VV140 weights about .0015 gr / kernel. VV150 is around .003/ kernel. So the level u are able to weigh to is finer with 140. I see that as an advantage in that I hit my loading wt faster using the smaller grained powder. VV150 works , it just takes me longer.

I am trying out N150 now in my 6BR and so far it seems to be shooting just about the identical speed that my SW Precision is shooting grain for grain. I went out to do some testing yesterday but the mirage I decided to test another day.

I'm doing things wrong I guess. To me the target always mattered. Everything else was negotiable.
Jeff,
If both powders produce the same results on target ( and I have no doubt they would) I choose the one that makes it easier to measure. I have found that VV140 will provide a smaller window of weight variation.
Now some will say I am picking the fly s out of the pepper getting the smallest variation my equipment will measure. It takes a Little longer for me to measure VV150 vs VV140.

I don’t think the smaller variation in powder weight with VV140 makes a difference in my 308, but the BRX is different. Small cases magnify any variations.

well thanks for that Bob. a month ago i used up my8# of N-150 - i do have an almost full jug of N-140 that i tried once. Ill try it out again

It's fairly easy to tune a load for the 6br with Varget, IMR4166, N140, N150, H4985 or any (most?) powders in that burn/bulk density range. Neck tension and load length is of more importance. Against the trend, I'm getting promising results and good velocities in the BRX with H4895 with 108 ELDM's.

Whidden has N 150 in stock. It seems to work well in the 6 Dasher. Should I take the risk and order an 8 lb keg? Nobody has Varget, and I want to shoot the rifle when it arrives this week.

thank you all,

ISS
My recent experience with N150 in a straight 6BR shooting 107 Sierras w/450s. Shot on a mini palma target at 100yds using a sling.
