N140

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
Looking for velocity figures with N140 in a 6 Dasher with 105 Berger Hybrid.
Getting a new barrel soon and don't like the throat erosion I have from Varget.
I read that N140 burns cooler, thus less throat erosion. But I've also read that it gives less velocity.
I'm at 2900 with Varget and it shoots very well. But I have. 020 throat erosion at 1000 rds. At this rate, the barrel will be toast at 1500.

Please don't tell me how barrels are consumables. I ain't rich.

Please keep replies to N140.

I realize my 6BRX is not exactly the same as the dasher but it is so close the load data will inter-change in most cases. I recently worked up a load with N140 in it and velocities were holding at 2960 -70 FPS right there with the Varget load with Bart's 105 gr. Hammer. Not real sure how old either of the powders are nor the lot #s.

Used both in .308 Palma loads and in the 6mmBR. N140 in the LRP Palma load behind the 155 45.5grn vs 2208/Varget 46-47grn lot dependant. While in the 6mmBR 30.0grn of one or the other prints the same dope and velocity.
N140 is definitely a lot cleaner burning and shows less wear than the 2208/Varget lumps of coal loads, like everything here my loads developed in the Barnards may differ from your loads - try it and you will love it.
Have used about six lots from 1993 (>20kg of one lot) to the last lot we got here in NZ dated before 2020 and every single lot returned the exact same load data including finding in 2022 in the back of a suppliers stores another 1993 canister to fill the last serial in that lot I hadn't managed to buy! Now only wish we could still get it here in reliable time frames and quantities like we used to - ordered by the shipping case of 6x1kg canisters or 12x1lbs if ex the states.

I love N140 in my Dasher. Mainly 105 and 108 Berger BT’s coated with WS2. I can’t get the velocity with Peterson Brass that I get with Lapua. Peterson runs 2830 fps and Lapua 2910 fps. The Peterson charge is about 2 grains less than the Lapua to keep from getting ejector marks on the base of the case. Both loads are super accurate, just different nodes.
Image is from a couple days ago, zeroing a scope, 108 Berger @ 100 yards Lapua brass, Tula 556M primers, .001 neck tension, Jump .020”.

Not sure that I am on board with the throat erosion measurement to define barrel life. That being written, don't expect much difference in barrel life. I find this case size to be more sensitive to how fast I put rounds down range and how many shots I shoot in a row. 20 shots strings show better life than 60 shot string strings. Not many people call 6mm dasher barrels done in less than 1500 rounds, but it is possible.
