Mystery Critters

I got some videos of these animals last summer on the trail cams and thought they were maybe foxes. After several months of not seeing them I got these videos last week. And now they look more like coyotes, except for the black one with the white tip tail and underbody. Any ideas what they might be?Screenshot_20251222-131525_Gallery.jpg

I'm in southwestern Virginia. I was confused as I didn't think that foxes and coyotes hang out together. I will try and upload a video showing what I'm talking about

Doesn't look like I'm able to upload the video. I took a few screenshots from the video. It appears that a coyote and the black with white critter are quite comfortable with each other. The camera spooked the coyote

The white blaze on its chest looks like a black coyote to me. Unfortunately we don’t have any that I’ve ever heard of here in Missouri.

I'd venture to say they're coyotes. The black ones show up every now and then. A friend of mine called in and shot 2 in consecutive years in the same area in northeastern Ohio. He had DNR(?) do a DNA test on the second one and it came back 100% coyote. According to a search they are rare, but more common in North Carolina area of the US. Do a search on Melanism in Coyotes

Still interesting for sure. JME. WD
