My wife shot her second whitetail, a buck of a lifetime!

My wife is a new hunter, although she is fast becoming very proficient. Two trips to South Africa, including a Cape Buffalo in 2024.
Her only whitetail was a spike, two years ago in the mountains of Idaho. My friend is an outfitter out of Kamiah, Idaho and we have hunted bears, lions, wolves and bobcats with him for nearly 20 years. He gets a few outfitter whitetail tags each year and saves some for us Minnesota hunters. We don't have any deer left at my hunting ground south of Duluth for many years due to the wolves.

Despite the wolves in Idaho, he has a great population of whitetails. this year while pulling our bear bait cameras, a photo of a buck got his attention. It looked big but was never seen on camera again. The week before our hunt, his hunter from California saw the buck 30 yards away while stillhunting but was so shaken, he didn't dare shoot due to buck fever. My friend told my wife she should try for that deer specifically. She sat with her rifle in a tripod in a ground blind for 4 days, dawn to dusk, without seeing any buck. The 5th day at 10:20am a doe stepped out of the timber 152 yards away and looked back. I whispered for her to get ready. Out stepped this buck and she dumped him. The 284 Shehane with the 175gr Berger Elite Hunter did it again. I looked at her and asked her if she knew what she just did, she said no. I told her she shot a buck of a lifetime. Very heavy body for a mountain whitetail, no molars in back, and lots of fresh wounds from fighting. SCI score of 174 3/8". Guess who is now getting a life size whitetail mount?

Four solid days in a blind....shes tuffer than I.
First day was in a chair, no blind. Rain and sleet. Then we put up the ground blind. I gave her the trophy hunter speech, be prepared to go home with an empty tag, etc. She toughed it out. The heater suit kept her comfortable. I sat outside the blind because I am not that smart.....

GREAT TROPHY! Tenacity pays off! CONGRATS to your wife on her trophy, The only problem with taking a trophy like that, is getting a better one next year!:D:D:D
