My Wife Had To Go To The Hospital

Monday Morning my wife woke up with a terrible pain in her left side, low down. We went to a local clinic, they sent her to the local hospital.
They did a Scan, and Ultrasound, XRays, could not find anything amiss. Blood work came out good. Urine was clear.
They said maybe she pulled a muscle,, or something else, and sent her home as all of the test came out negative.
She had no more pain, so we figured we would still leave for the TackDriver this morning.
Yesterday evening, the pain returned. She went back to the hospital, they finally discovered that she had a severe urinary track infection and a inflammation in her left kidney.
We got home late last night. The treatment is antibiotics. The also gave her some medication for the pain. It should clear up in four to five days.
The hospital had little explanation as to why they could not find this Monday.
I am thankful all of the other test showed to abnormalities. At our age, your first thoughts are always fearful that it is something very serious. Thank goodness it is something they can treat with a simple procedure. Our trip to South Carolina is on hold, probably canceled. We certainly don’t won’t to get on the road and this start giving her more trouble. And I am not leaving town knowing my wife is not well.
Even though I am now going to miss The TackDriver, I know that I have a lot to be thankful for and will just look forward to what next year brings.

Don't want to scare you, but I had an emoloyee that died this year due to a UTI that snowballed. She first had some shingles, then they discovered the infection, had a hard time treating it, which lead to something that caused cognitive issues, and eventually it got her. Definitely not something we saw coming. As people age the small things can get serious quick. Take care of her!

UTIs can quickly become serious, especially in seniors! Cognitive issues can occur if the infection enters the bloodstream... unfortunately, I know this from personal experience!

Not a doctor but it’s my understanding ”instant” urinalysis can detect blood in the urine not bacteria which takes hours or days? for a culture.
If you have a history of UTIs and your doctor is aware of that he MIGHT give you a script for antibiotic while waiting for the result of the culture, some will, most won’t.
Glad the antibiotics were finally prescribed.

All the best and hoping she has a complete and speedy recovery. My wife suffers those from time to time. Awfully painful problem. Good thing you were there for her.

Same w a dear Aunt, farm wife. Being treated for uti, all under control...zoom, hospital, died.
Nothing to take lightly.
Hope all goes well for her.

Wishing her a speedy recovery to 100%. It might not be a bad idea to stay home the rest of the year in this crazy world. Covid cases around here are spiking like a rocket ship headed for the moon.

Congrats on number 50, those old girls get pretty special. In a few months it will be number 52 for us.

I work in the recovery room at a fairly large hospital and some of the sickest most unpredictable patients were pts with uti’s from a kidney stone or other blockage from disease process. Once the kidney gets blocked and can’t drain and all that infection doesn’t have anywhere to go - it backs up into the blood stream. Fast heart rate and low blood pressure and delirium is next - once they place a stent to relieve the kidney and antibiotics folks slowly get better. I’ve sent a lot of young people that waited for tx the the icu on a vent for a few days !! Never meaning to scare you but hang around home for few days and drink lots flush things out and finish the antibiotic before the road trip. I’m not a physician by any means so ask your family doc his input and go from there. Hope all goes well and 50 yrs is something to celebrate this day and time - the best to y’all

Best wishes for you both, that can quickly turn serious. Two years ago my mother in law wasn't feeling well, her doctor was off so she went to someone else. That doctor ran some tests, then was off the next day and forgot to forward the tests to someone else... Two days later she was in the ER, very sick. The test results from 2 days earlier revealed that she had a severe UTI. A day in the hospital and a strong course of antibiotics got her good as new.

I wish the best for your wife’s full recovery. The UTI should have showed up with the first urinalysis. The way they explained it to me all urinalysis aren’t the same. They do preliminary ones with just a test strip and if it shows infection then they do one with more detailed results. Its been my experience the 1st type aren’t always correct. A lot of the reason this stuff happens is because of the insurance companies who care about profit more than their policy holders welfare. Thank You for sharing this with everyone here. You’ve done more than inform people that care you’ve helped inform others that may go through the same sickness.

My wife was hospitalized for an UTI, barely got her there in time. He kidneys locked down that day at the hospital. There were 8 other women on that floor from UTI's, and one of them was going to have to be on dialysis for the rest of her life. The wife's kidney's came back to life two days later. It is still my fault.
