My Savage 12FV build

I finished my first rifle build last weekend. A Savage 12FV in 6.5 Creedmoor. I put it into a Boyd's AT ONE stock. (My first pillar bedding job) and topped it with a nice First Focal Plane Vortex 4 x 16 x 44
I am starting with IMR 4350 to develop loads. Anxious to break it in.SAVAGE 12FV.jpg

I've built several Savage custom rifles. I've always had really good luck with them. Now start looking at what it takes to rebarrel them. It is not that expensive for the needed tools and it doesnt take rocket science to do. I always send the action to be trued up at the gun smith (normally around $60). X-Caliber and Proof Research make awesome Savage Pre-fit barrels. With this set up, I have yet to not get groups in the .300" or below. This has been with several different calibers as well. 260 Rem, 6mmCreedmoor, 7-08 Win and have a 6x45mm in the works! Its a lot of fun and really boosts the pride when it is all said and done.

Nice rifle! I love building off of the FV, when they go on sale of course.
I'm not sure but I think the ole 12FV is history now.
Not even on Savage.com or Cabelas inventory (sold out).
Savage has a lot of expensive model 12s but not the FV any more.
I hope I'm wrong and it's one of my favorites too.

Looks sharp! I bet you'll have lots of fun with it.

You might be another victim to auto-correct typing, but it's spelled Creedmoor, not Creedmore.

I hope not. It's a lot of fun tearing one down and re-making it into something you want. Even more fun when you can do it on the cheap.

I bought a savage 12FV in 223 heavy barrel at cabelas in thornton CO a couple weeks ago. I have another 12FV rebarreled in 6x45 and shot a couple WT deer in TX with it a month ago.

Your going to love it. I bought my 12 F/V used 3 years ago. Shot 3" groups at 600 yds.

That's what got me hooked.

Replaced the barrel about 18 months ago and still love it. I also went with the Boyds AT-one. I'm glad you pillered and bedded it.

Now it shoots 1 MOA at 1000 yds with this set-up.

I now have built a 6mm Creed, using a used Savage 308 and re-barrled to 6mm CM.
I'm on my second 6mm barrel, shot out the throat .140" after about 1000 rounds.

Just shot it yesterday at 100 yds, .25MOA with new barrel.
