My new scope!

Well, picked up a Z3 at a local store to replace the Leopold, with exposed turrets, that cost me a BIG Buck, that I have nightmares about, that I can't get out of my mind, that.... well, y'all understand I'm sure. :)

EDIT for Clarity - Anyway, couple of things: First, mounted rifle back on factory stock after camo job. (Also removed plastic ribs that barrel rested on - so barrel is free floated up to the point of contact at the "throat" area of the barrel). Rifle was not shooting first shot low on Boyd's stock but, is now shooting first shot low and then follows the next two shots at the zero point I intended to have. Shooting at 100 yards but Setting for 200 yard zero. Two 3 shot strings were identical. I adjusted left for the second string. After giving this some thought, I am ok with the shot placements because of the consistency. First shots were from "cold" barrel followed by 2 & 3 shots at two minute interval. Anyone experience this before? Wondering if it is the Tikka stock pressure point thingy???

Second, my first camo job on a stock. How do you like it?

Try playing around with your seating depth to see it you can get it to stop kicking one out the bottom like that. My Tikka's like 0.02 back from JAM, try start there and move the seating deeper incrementally till you find something that shoots, then move as far forward on that node as it will hold a group to give yourself some room for erosion.

Nice work on the stock, look into a cheapo Kydex cheek riser, would help a lot at that scope height and it would look great matched to the stock as well.

Was mounted on Boyd's stock but moved back to factory stock after the camo applied. Boyds has three shots on top of each other. See target provided. But the low shot is still "zero" at 100 so I feel comfortable with this. Not shooting beyond 400 anyway.

Why the towel? Ditch it. Get your stock grip off the rear “bag?” (Is that a sled) Action screw torque values? Bedded? Clean barrel or ? fouled?
I think it’s a barrel/load/ gun issue, not a scope issue. Maybe just the barrel warming up.
Are you shooting factory or your reloads?
It seems to be shooting like a Tikka.

Towel is fine where it is. An old Caldwell rest with sticky Duct tape that the towel protects the forearm from. Some like a bag. I don't. My shooting habit has not failed me in the field yet.

It is not a scope issue. Not bedded, not needed. Torque wrench used to specification for Tikka.

Barrel is clean.

It is a Tikka. Never had one shoot first shot low and follow up with two shots a little higher with this kind of consistency. Do you have any experience with this that you can provide insight on? I also think it could be the barrel warming up - wondering if the pressure point causes the point of impact change from cold to warm barrel?

I have 8 or 9 Tikkas, some with custom barrels. They all shoot well. A cleaned rifle always shoots a little off. I usually shoot a few foulers before I go for groups. If I go on a hunt, I shoot the gun before the hunt and leave it fouled.
I understand the towel. I thought it might be allowing movement.

You make a good point on the fouling shot... since i did run a bore snake through the barrel before each three shot group. Did not consider that. Thanks for your input! Oh, Happy New Year! :)

Some Tikkas have the pressure point under the fore-end and others don't. I had one Tikka that wouldn't shoot well at all once the pad was removed. Another rifle is free-floated out of the box and shoots excellent. Usually no rhyme or reason, but you can test how it would shoot with the pressure pad by sliding in some cardstock.
