My New Savage 10 FPC 308

Short range,
I don't have a huge amount of experience with brakes, but here goe's I used to have a #70 .300 wm with a bosh brake (Browning) you could tune the barrel
(harmonics) by turning a ring on the brake,it worked you could really reduce the group sizes with it,remove the brake alltoghter and it would change both poi and group size. I have a .338-378 weatherby mag,it shoots 9/16" groups, remove the brake,1.5" groups and poi changes quite a bit, now the group size could be due to heavy recoil :-\. It would only stand to reason to me anyway that if you add or remove anything from the barrel the harmonics would change which would equate into different grouping as well as possibly changing poi.
This is just one mans opinion short range and opinions may vary. This may not hold true for every rifle with a brake but its what I found with mine.

Short Range,
I agree with bozo699, I also don't have a lot of experience with breaks, but what bozo is saying makes since. I look at barrel harmonics like this. You are trying to get the bullet to exit the muzzle at the moment that the barrel stops for a nano sec. to change directions as it vibes up and down side to side however it does. The closer you get too the bullet exiting the muzzle at the point that the barrel stops for that nano sec. to change directions your groups get tighter. In short this is where you are going in and out of accuracy nodes. So If a break changes your groups with a proven load, it could very well be that all you need to do is adjust your load to compensate for the disruption of the barrel harmonics? I have no facts to prove what I'm saying. It's just some thoughts that I have. I could be just as wrong as I think I am right? I do find barrel harmonics very interesting myself. Dang it Now I have to do some more shooting and testing to see if I'm right or wrong! Don't know if I can handle all the range, and tirgger time lol!!!! ;) I guess I will just have to manage lol ;D

My Tika barreled 308, with the brake off has one point of impact. Put the brake on and the p.o.i. will shift approx. 2" high & to the right, at 200 yds. proper sight adjustment(s) are recorded with & without, so it's no big deal to click in whatever is required. With the brake on, groups are noticably smaller than with the brake off, and the rifle will hold small group sizes with a wider variety of ammo/loads. Same loads that were mediocre w/o the brake are very good with. 308, 10 1/2# rifle now has the recoil, off the bench, of a 243.
