I just finished my latest custom with a lot of help from James Anderson. James is a very talented custom gunmaker. He is in the American Custom Gunmakers Guild.
I started with a Pierce CM receiver. I chambered the Lilja CM barrel and sent it to James to make it an octagon barrel. I built scope bases for it, made an octagon banded ramp front sight. James didn't like my rear iron sight and he built a replacement. Dan Armstrong put 2 bolt handles together to get the look I wanted. I installed a PT&G 3 pos safety. I built a recoil lug that fits under the receiver as I think the Remington type is ugly. The scope rings are Talleys. James made the trigger guard. I made a really nice one but I screwed up and used the wrong distance for the hole centers. James was cheap enough that I wasn't about to make another. The wood came from Roger Vardy in Australia. I have and will continue to use Roger's wood. I think James did a truly wonderful job on my stock. James also polished the metal and did the rust blue. Ken Hurst, FEGA, did the engraving. Jim Carmichel recommended him and he was an excellent choice.
The octagon barreled front ramp sight was a real challenge for me. It does have one of the new Shilen triggers. It is great! I did chamber it in 6.5X47Lapua.
I hope you like it. It was a fun build.
