my new 6mm BR with 68 watsons is a death ray.

my most accuate gun is this 6mm BR 14 twist and shoots in the ones with 60-68 gr bullets, so i have been taking it to the fields. on a prior posting i recounted how an 8 pounder crawled 20 feet to his hole after a 240 yd chest shot and a 300 yd shot rolled one that got up and escaped, so i worked up a load with these 68 gr watsons using LT 32 and shot the smallest three shot 100 yd group of my years. at 3450 fps i felt ther should be plenty of energy to hopefully drt the pigs. sooooo ghog in fence row at 250 yds and no wind. sightron dot on center chest and i sent it. WHUPPP! and he vanishes in the weeds! i kept looking and FINALLY the tail salute...flick, flick, flick...done. one at 150 yds was vaporized. i went to another field that had some pear trees dropping fruit and the pigs LOVE this fruit. a huge red one stands up and i get ready only to have a truck go rumbling by and, yes, this one is smart. an hour later and it is getting dark. popped a 7 pounder at 100 yds with a 22 BR pushing 60 bergers at 3600 fps..no challenge. get back and pack up to go BUT always look one last time where you saw a big one and YES, YES, there he is 209 yds and eating a pear facing me. dot on the fruit and BANG..SPLATTT! THE PIG IS CRAWLING! hell's bells, chamber another round in 2 millisec and BANG..SPATTT! guts everywhere and this one is double DRT. the landowner comes over wanting to know if i got the greyish one he saw. this one is reddish and weighs 11 lb 14 oz. he offers to mow around the trees to make it easy to see, but i decline...the weeds give the ghogs a false sense of security and i'v learned how to look into them. it was dark now, so packed up and went home REALLY liking the new gun.

Great story and sounds like a great Rifle....Thanks for sharing. I really like the 6Br and have 3 of them at this time. Was out shooting one today. It sure would be nice if you could share some pictures of the Rifle along with the specifications with us. Thanks again for sharing the story.....George

Great story! I shoot the 70 grain Sierra BlitzKings in my 14tw .243AI. I get Crawlers much past 350 with the 80 grain A-Max in my .223AI but not so with the BK's from the .243. I'm pushing them at over 3900 fps and would feel comfortable to 600+ yards with them. I know you can't get that much speed but they perform very well and shoot .3 MOA in my rifle. ;)

The 6mm BR is one of my favorites. I actually have 5 different barrels for two different actions in various rates of twist. I just screwed a Hart 1 in 14" HV with a .272 no turn neck onto my Borden single shot Alpine Action. This barrel was chambered and fitted by Borden. The only prep to the brass was a slight neck turn (<.0005) to clean up the necks; Lapua brass of course in the blue plastic box.. I started shooting 3 shot groups using Hammonds 68n grn. bullets with VV N135 powder. The barrel showed promise immediately with the first 21 rounds shooting 3 shot groups and going up in charge. I picked the charge that showed the least amount of vertical and loaded on either side of it. I shot it again this morning and put three shots into a single hole @ 100 yds. The hole is a bullet diameter. It also had no vertical while the charges on either side yielded 1/16" vertical. I'll be shooting 5 shot groups Wed. or Thurs. to confirm. I have never shot a group that tight. Borden does one hell of a job.

NCVarhtr: i have tried posting photos but my system won't let me. my 6 BR is a 27 in 14 twist kreiger hv contour, stiller predator repeater action converted into single shot with a davidson loading ramp. i bought the baer laminated thumbhole stock from a member who had it bedded for a stiller predator single shot. chambered with a pt&g .2704 neck .040 freebore, jewell 1.5 oz, sightron 8-32 in nightforce rings and rail. total weight is 17#. lapua brass, cci450 and currently LT 32 powder...just bought 6 more lbs. n 133, benchmark, 8208 XBR, and n 140 also give great accuracy.

Thanks for the specifications on your Rifle. Sounds like an awesome rig. I know you will continue to enjoy it. Thanks for the new information....George

I have a lilja 1-12 twist that is 28" long in 6 BR with zero freebore. I am shooting a hot load of AA2230 with the Lapua brass with 7 1/2 primers with the 55g nosler BT. At 300 yards, I have shot many 1"-3/4" groups at 3900 fps. I have worked up loads with my own 60g HP, 65g HP low drag BT, 70 and 75g Low drag bT, along with the 75g V max, and 65g V Max. Accuracy with the heavier bullets is outstanding, but the speed producing such flat trajectory just stomps the other bullets.

Gene Harwood, then NBRSA director< sat a world record with the 6 BR using H335 with his own 60g HP at 3700 fps out of a 24" MHV in a registered Benchrest match.

You may want to give those 55g Noslers a try along with H335.

had some fun shooting pears at 250 yds on sat (they really splatter) with the 68 watsons and LT32, so i went afield. blew a 10 pounder apart at 178 yds then one stood up in fairly tall grass and ranged at 320 yds. up and down he went with me trying to get him in the scope. finally, no wind and he was walking...BANG...not sure i heard a splatt and didn't see a tail wag. what to do? the hillside is quite steep and there were some rocks. my rav 4 toyota will climb just about anything, so up i went...just a little slipping and where the h_ _l is that hole? finally found it and YAHOO there is a 12 lb 5 oz male with grass in his mouth and only a tiney drop of blood at the exit wound...the majority of energy dispersed in his chest. ended the day with a 286 yd neck shot...only part visible since the grass was so high. you're lucky to see one in this stuff but i "harvested" his great grandfather 4 years ago and knew where the holes were. if i can see you.....

Great sounding rifle. i love my 6br's

I have a 12 twist 6br I've been shooting 80gr Berger over 32 gr Varget.
I have 8lbs of LT32 I shoot in my ppc. I've been going to try it in my 6br with some 65 gr vmaxs
Back surgery has messed my shooting up this year. Hopefully next spring.

What load with the LT is working for you?

sat i whacked a 12 lb 8 oz one at 249 yds and it barely flicked it's tail...grass in mouth. i thought it was a pot belllied pig. these are my loads and you know to start low. 60 berger 30.2, 62 euwin(bergers) 30.2, 65 WEB(berger) 29.8-30.2, 64 column 30, and 68 watsons 30 gr. these are loads i worked up to and stopped since the holes were SOOOOO small. i had no high pressure signs. mvs for the 60s around 3600, 64/65 at 3560 and th 68s are 3450. my barrel is 27 in.
