My new 6.5x47

KT, your shooting smk's and Scenar 123's. Your Scenar groups look good, when you were off, were you only trying the smk's? Or did you have some Scenar's loaded?

The reason I ask, my 6.5x47 loves 120smk's and 123 Scenar's! It DOESN"T like 123smk's!
Are you kissing the lands or going into the lands? On mine, I kiss with 120smk's, and go in about .015 with Scenar 123's.

One of your first target's with Varget looked great! Just a little less powder than H4350! I have always been told to find the powder that works and fills the case up the most!

Any thoughts on the above?

KT, would you mind sharing the barrel specs? I 'm building one with a 8.5 twist and need some chambering specs.

Here's the one and only group I shot last Saturday to check the scope zero prior to a varmint shoot.
Variable 4-8mph wind at 200yds- not corrected for

BTW, 2208 = Varget. ADI make it for Hodgdon.

yeah some guys say the 6br is accurate. but it seems if you put a 123-130gr bullet on top of varget or H4350 your gona get some LOVE!! ;D

Dennis,
I was mostly using the smk 123's. I went to these because the Lapua's are kind of pain to get. I can get the smk's at several local shops around me. It seems that I had some fouling. I have since went back to the range with the 123's and they have shot great.

On the SMK's I put them right at the lands. So .00 with the secnars I had them at .10 in the lands.

I have recently switched over to the berger 130's. The load I have found is 40.3 grains of H4350, 130berger target vld's, lapua brass, cci 450 primers @ 2856fps.

I shot the 130's at my first ever fclass shoot and they performed very well.

The H4350 seems to work very well for both of my 6.5's so I have stuck with it. Plus it doesn't seem to be temp sensitive.

Here's a pic from the berger 130's at 300yards

On my GAP gun I running a Bartlien 1x8.5 twist w/24 inch barrel/ varmit contour
On the Rem gun I run a Broughton 1x8 w twist w/27.5 inch barrel/mtu contour or #7

Both of these are standard chambers.

On the new gun I'm getting built it will wear a rock creek/1x8 twist/30 inch barrel/F class contour.
The new gun will probably weigh around 20 pounds. This will be my f class gun. Definitely not something you would want to carry around. LOL

This will be my third gun in 6.5x47L. I love the round it pretty much shoots everything pretty darn good.

I think if you go with either the 1x8 or 8.5 you will be just fine. As far as contour it really depends on what you want to do with it.

Hope that helps.

The other thing that I have notice is that I can't get near the powder charge that some of the guys are using.

with the 130 bergers@40.6g of H4350 I start getting ejector marks and cradering of the primer.

with the 123smk's @ 41.7 of H4350 I start getting ejector marks and cradering

with 123 smk's @ 37.8 of Varget I start getting ejector marks and cradering

Well, it was a funny thing KT.
I used the brass straight out of the box, did a bit of reading, measured the throat position and put together three loads: 37.5, 38 and 38.5grs.
Fired two three-shot groups of each. All were nice but the 38 stood out, one under 3/8" and the other a 30cal hole ::)
No significant pressure signs at 38.5 but the group wasn't quite as nice so I stuck with 38 and it's a tackdriver.
I have a pic somewhere of a 4-shot group of 0.9" at 392yds.
