My new 6.5x47

So after getting my first 6.5x47 I was so impressed with the round I had another one made. My first one is a GA precision gun.

The second one I had Accurate Ordanance build. I took my old Rem 700p and sent it off to them.
So here is the list of what was done.
Blueprint and true the action
Badger oversize recoil lug
Broughton Barrel finished at 27inches #7contour
Worked 40x trigger
HS precision stock, that was opened up for the heavier barrel
Glass beded stock
Badger Bolt handle
Coated action, bottom metal, barrel, and badger 20moa base

Some pics they took at the shop and a test target

Congrats, looks great.

Here Down Under I am building my first 6.5x47L based on a Tikka T3 Action and a 1:8 Twist 5 Groove Pac-Nor SS #7 so I hope it comes close.

Thanks guys. I should recieve the gun today in the mail. I'll get some rounds loaded up and head to the range this weekend to see what it will do.

Very nice! I am patiently awaiting my build in 6.5X47 on a Savage Target action. Your not helping my anxiousness! ;D

LOL! That's to funny man. I will fill you guys in on how it shoots. I picked it up last night and got everything installed on it and measured my OAL. Just waiting on the brass to show up today from midway.

KT, looking good on your 2nd 6.5X47! One heck of a accurate cartridge!

Frank

Thanks Frank for all of your load data help on the first one. Now it's time to figure this one out. This time I will start with 41g of H4350 and work my way up.

So I have got an invite from a US FTR team member to come out and shoot f class.

So for 600 and 1000 yards do I need to go to the 140g bullets or will the 123's and 130 bergers work?

Do any work better than the others for that range?

Yes, the more accurate of the three work better.

Here's what I came up with today at the range.

41.3 to 41.6 H4350 shot really well, with lapua 123's and lapua brass, cci 450's.

I guess they all work right!

Now I just need to get some more rounds loaded up and start working my way out.

So went back out to the range on Saturday. It was 58 degrees and 20mph winds w/30 gusts.

I shot 20 shots from 100 yards and had two .2 groups, one .4 group and one .6 group.

Moved down to 300 yards and shot my first 5 shot group (in the picture) and of course got very excited. However I shot 5 more 5 shot groups and couldn't come close to replicating the first group. I was there about 3 hours so I don't think barrel heat was a problem for 55 shots.

Maybe wind or maybe barrel was fouled not sure.

I was shooting lapua brass, smk 123's, 41g h4350, cci 450's, don't know fps, new chrono comes in this thursday.

When I say couldn't reproduce, the next closest group was 2.50 inches.

Any thoughts?

KT, sounds like you may need a good cleaning, my 6.5X47 goes somewhat south on me after 35-40 rounds without cleaning. I discovered that rifle forms a carbon ring in forward end of chamber after so many rounds, I get ring out with a small amount of JB and rifle returns to previous accuracy. Put a Hawkeye borescope on your wish list for Christmas this year. ;D

Frank

Frank,
Yea maybe that was the case and the barrel was fouled. I try to be very particular about cleaning the barrel.Like everytime after the range. I use shooters choice to remove the carbon, barnes to remove the copper, and hoppes #9 to wash it out. I usually leave some hoppes in the barrel for a couple hours just to make sure there is nothing left in the barrel.

Great another thing to add to the wish list. I just got a new spotting scope and chrono. LOL
