I was going to move on, but the pot got stirred. So with 300 new pieces of Peterson 284
Winchester brass, I took a look at doing an all purpose cat that I could go from point blank,
to killing steel coyotes out to 1000 yards at Ridgway. I'm retiring my SA284. and my much
shorter 284-ELF......Not a big fan of the 6.5's but Dave Zimmerman was able to win the two
day Ridgway Pa, VBR Championship (850 to 1000 yards) with a "6.5 GT" cat of his. Keeping
this in the back of my head, but wanting a larger boiler room, I started looking between the
lengths of the 6.5x47 and 6XC, and bring the .284 case down to them, and keep it's 35 degree
shoulder as I always do.......I have the final push to the shoulder done, and trimmed. I'm going
to leave the neck a bit long for this project for a reason......So at this point, it's no longer in the
feral stage, and I can get on with chambering up a mule barrel for fire forming.......Digging thru
my reamers, I came across a .284 no throat reamer Danny Biggs sold me a couple of years back.
I'll put it to use.
As it is, I scrounged a 6XC case that was necked up to 6.5 for the dog and pony show pic. On the
right is the new .284 ???. I'll come up with a name, but that's not important right now. Hope my
son does'nt have the lathe tied up......
