My Gun and Scope Value

I have started a new project and need to sell my gun and scope to finance it. Unfortunately, I don't know the value of my gun. If someone has a good Idea, please let me know.

I have a STEYR SSG 08 w/bipod and Vortex Razor 5x20-50. I am pretty sure the Razor is worth ~$1200...but I have no clue about the SSG 08. When I look for a comparable on line, all I get is the MSRP on an SSG 08 A1 which is priced at $7500.

Thanks for the expertise in advance...blessings!

First, the "market" will be slim for a gun like that. What did you pay for it? How "used" is it. Condition matters. Take a look at Gunbroker and the listings of comparable rifles. Record the asking prices and if they're used or new. Watch and see if they get bids. Call the guys at Eurooptic and ask thier opinion. This should give you an idea what it's worth. Then decide how fast you want to sell it. A lower price (read as DEAL) will usually sell faster. Higher price will sell slower unless it's some how unique. It usually comes down to how bad do you need the money. I see guys put guns on the market for what they think it's worth. If it doesn't sell at that price, they stick it back in the safe and wait for a better market. Good luck.

Agreed. Check gunbroker for other SSG 08's for sale.

Appreciate the reply...

The rifle has 880+/-20 rounds of GMM shot through it. Steyr's cold hammer forged barrels have been known to shoot as much as 10,000 rounds and still hold 1MOA accuracy. Very low recoil .308 with the muzzle break. What I have seen on Gunbroker was for new ones...they are going for anywhere from $4200-$7500 depending on which version. I was thinking I would ask $4200 for the rifle, scope & rings, level, pelican case, newer version versa pod, and log book.

Humbly,
As someone else suggested, you may have a rifle (thought a very nice one at that) that appeals to a limited crowd of shooters. But I'd suggest you do your market research and see what similar rifles are being sold for. Then come up with a corresponding price YOU feel comfortable with. And post it and see what the market brings you. But be patient and give it some time. You may even receive a counter offer or two. But it may boil down to what you are willing to let the rifle go for. Good luck and hope your Steyr sells.
