About six months ago I bought a used barrel with a Woolum tuner on it from of the site. After weeks of trying for consistency with my Bat 3l, I decided what the heck, I might as well spin the barrel off and give the barrel with the tuner a try.
I did no load work up to speak of. Just measured hard jam, backed off .01 with plans of working back into the lands. Tried three charge weights, and went with what shot the best.
The Woolum tuner has 20 notches on the fine adjustment bezel. I intended to start at what I called zero and work all the way around going clockwise shooting three shot groups. I failed to realize that the fine tune bezel was adjusted in. I could only turn 9 notches clockwise and it bottomed out. So, I shot 0-9 turning clockwise.
I went back to zero and started working counterclockwise 1-19.
This took several days of shooting mostly in the afternoon with hot temperatures (90 degrees) and little wind.
After I finished, I chose “1” as what looked like the best in tune position, loaded 11 rounds this afternoon and gave it a go. (Red box)
The results are self explanatory, although I am not sure how to interpret them and put the to use. I do know this barrel will shoot, and “1” is in tune.
