7 twist 243 24 inch barrel. I am wanting to shoot the 105 hybrids, I have varget, H4831sc,H4350,and rl 17(5 pounds) so I would like to use rl17 if possible. Thanks for any input.

get a berger reloading book and try loads with all the powders you have. thats bout the only way i know to tell what YOUR gun will shoot best. There's no magic load for every rifle

Welllll, I was hoping there was a load like the 30 grains varget for the 6br that works in so many. Ill start testing. thanks

Well there is for my 2 243's 43.5 grs H-414 85gr BTHP sierra's but I don't have a load for 105's in these carry rifle's

Give 34.6gr of IMR4895 a try if you have some (work up from 33.4).
I'm working on the same thing for a 8 twist and with 3 shot test groups the other day 34.3 gave me a group of 0.195 and 34.6 was 0.161 @100. Now I need to repeat and and tweak just a bit to see what happens, but it will be a couple of weeks before I can do it.
FYI this is a 24" 1:8 CBI barrel on a Savage PTA.

I have the 6SLR (Same case cap.) And H1000 and H4831SC have been the best powders for mine. I would think that the 4895 might be a tad fast and not give you the velocity that your looking for but could be wrong. I see some guys are looking at IMR7828 with the heavy bullets. Keep us posted on what you find out.

I think I have some IMR4895, I know I have some H4895 but I am out of town right now. Keep us posted how it goes, Are you jumping the hybrid?

i'm using 105gr berger vlds 1;8 twist 243 and am using 40.3gr of ADI 2213sc which is also H4831sc with great results
as per ADI book min 38gr, max 41gr but i have gone to 41.5gr without any pressure problems

I built a 7.5 twist to shoot David Tubb's 115g bullet he has made by Sierra for him, chamber is cut to seat them at full length, have used AI magazines in AI stock with Rem 700 action, works great, velocity is 2,900 to 3,000 with my set up, have used action an HS stock also and no feeding issues with the BDL mag, accuracy at best so far for me shooting off bipod on bench at 200 yards was 5 rounds in .6 using 8.5-25x scope with mildot reticle, have used Reloader 25 and Vit 165, good luck

I shoot 46.1 gr Reloader 25. Lapua brass. Federal 210M primer. 105 Berger (VLD, Hybrid, and Hunting) all shoot same. Prefer the hunting over the over two. Chrono: 3025 fps. Sub .1 at 100 and holds 1/2 moa out to 900 yards. 20 thousandths into the lands. Scott

Got to the range for a barrel break in and a couple groups. I loaded rl17 at 38.5, 39.0, and 39.5 with New win brass and jumping the 105 hybrid 20 thou. I shot one 3 shot group with each load and am pleased with the initial groups (best was .357, worse was .495 on a hot sunny day ) No pressure signs and velocity was right at 2859 with the 39.5 load , 24 inch 7 twist barrel throated for the heavies. Seems slow to me, I am going to move up some in charge tomorrow and watch for pressure. Is this close to others rl17 loads? This is the first time I have ever shot rl17 so its new territory for me. Thanks

41.5-42.5 gr h4350 with br2 and win brass combined with most 105-107 will rock. Should be in the 3040-3140 fps. My 24" 8 twist runs 42.0 with 105 hvld at 3130 and bugholes up close and can do 5-6"@1k off a bipod. 43.0-44.5 gr of h4831sc works good, usually 3000-3050 fps, very accurate and low es sd. I have had 5 different 243 8 twists and these two powders are east choices. H4895 is a great powder for the 55 gr varmint bullets, but with heavy bullets u will hit pressure before speed, as such save them for the light bullets or a different caliber. The last time i had my 24" remage out it shot a .084 3 shot and a .210" 5 shot. This is a trued 700 with a criterion remage barrel in an AICS off of bipod and bag prone. Barrel has right at 1700 rds of 105 gr bullets running 3040-3130...good stuff.

Ok got back to the range with rl17, I went up to 41.0 grains with no pressure signs at all but 40.5 shot the best groups at 2982 fps average. I was planning to try couple of the other powder combos that have been recommended but my accuracy is great with rl17. I wonder if I can reach a higher node or would that be pushing to hard. I usually use cci primers but the fed gm215m have the edge on this load. Thanks

Be careful about trying to push up to another node. My 243 was a 7.5 twist Brux. I shot nothing but H4350 and 115 DTAC(naked) thru it. I did an OCW test and found a perfect load(I thought) and it shot extremely well for the first couple hundred rounds. Then it went nutty over pressure. Started blowing primers out of the pockets with no warning and in the middle of an F Class match.
BTW, why a 7 twist? The 7.5 has always been plenty for anything I did in 6MM.

I think I will stay at 40.5, its accurate and Is close to the speed I wanted and was tested in 85 to 90 degree temps. I went with a 7 twist because I didn't want to wait on a barrel and struck a good deal in price and also gunsmith time to install a brake and chamber it for me. Its my first fast twist 243, I have 8 twist 6brs and wanted a lil more speed so I thought I would try it. So far I am well pleased, I am going to Wyoming next week to stretch it out a bit. I do want to try other powders but don't want to waste barrel life as it is shooting .3s pretty regular and even a couple groups lower when I do my part (It took 56 shots to settle into this load). Thanks to all that replied , I may go the AI route next time.

I finally got to the range and retested my loads. At 34.6gr. of IMR 4895 it was 2837fps with a SD of 2.
Three five shot groups all under .180 at 100 yards. Now I will start shooting score targets to see how I do.

PS jumping .021.
