My first .22 Rimfire Match

Match was today. I shot a 179-1X (DQ'd for 32x scope in Sporter class) and a 189-1X (Legal, in 10.5lb class) with my Winchester Subsonic. I had to use the Winchester because, unbeknownst to me, Copper plated bullets are not permitted under IR 50/50 Rules. Don't know how I missed that in my first read. I'd planned to shoot the 10.5 class anyway (I had to with a 32x, as 6.5x is max in Sporter class). Under club rules, anyone can shoot any class with any rifle, but it's a DQ if it's not within regulations.

Not great, but not terrible. I was 3rd... from last. My test targets all scored over 200 with the CCI Stingers. That's not great either in the 10.5 class, as I was competing against 245-15x folks.

I think I'm going to look around for a Cooper, since they seem to be popular sporter and 10.5 guns. Maybe an Anshutz for the 13.5 class (which I didn't shoot today due to other obligations).

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Rob

Here is my personal warning to you, Dont buy a cooper or anschutz for match shooting, they will NOT cut the grade and you WILL be dissapointed to say the least. For what you will pay you can find a used 40x and send it to Gene Davis and have the barrel checked, and if it dont cut the grade have him rebarrel and then you can shoot with the best, you have to have a good rifle or you cant tell if its you or the gun, eliminate the gun and work on your shooting,, been there and done the above, just trying to save you time and money. You will need a good adjustable front rest ,a rifle with a trigger that you can shoot FREE RECOIL and by that i mean you touch nothing but the trigger when you are shooting, no match rifle will let you get by by gripping the stock, putting pressure on the butt plate, a good front rest will allow you to get on your target, look at the wind flags and touch off the shot with out looking back thru the scope at your target, match shooting is not real cheap, but once you get the bug its real hard to let go, so save yourself some time . Good Luck. ed
