My Favorite Rifle - Rem. 700 .243 Win.

This is by far my favorite rifle, mainly because It is the most accurate Ive ever owned and to me a accurate bolt gun is alot more fun to shoot at long range than any semi.

Its a Remington 700 SPS Varmint. Chambered in .243 Win.

The addition of this scope has greatly helped shrink my group sizes.

I'm thinking about working up a different load for this bullet. Dan Newberry recommended I go with 48.1 grains of Retumbo with a CCI250 magnum primer. He said it would out shoot my current load for sure. If I can find some Retumbo I will probably give this load a shot. Im also thinking about giving H1000 a try with a magnum primer. Anyone has experience with these loads?

I shot some 300 yrd groups yesterday but with a 22mph cross wind they didn't turn out to
great mostly about 2" - 2.5" 3 shot groups.

Interesting? I just bought a new Rem 700 sps varmint .243 too. I also have the exact same H&S stock on it. Thanks for the load info. Have you tried any lighter varmint loads yet??? Im gonna try some 65g Vmax and some 75g Vmax. I also might try some Blitzkings. On the heavier side.....im gonna try some 95g SMK's.

2-2.5" groups at 300 yds. with a factory gun, albeit restocked with a quality stock, is pretty damned good shooting! Especially in that kind of wind! I would have to say you're pretty good with that load you have. Have you played with seating depth or neck tension yet? That may help your groups at 300 some!

I run the 75 grain hollow points of most any manufacturer and they shoot really well.I use 4831 as my propellant. Hodgden powder that is.

One of my all time favorite cartridges - just love the 243 - have three on them, Rem 700 sporter, Rem 7, and Tikka T3 light. A truly dual purpose cartridge for white tail and varmints. Light recoil - easy to load - capable of excellent accuracy - effective on deer size game with the proper bullet.

IMR 4350 and the 243 go together like "peanut butter and jelly". ;)

Try the Nosler 90 grain ballistic tip - super accurate in my rifles with IMR 4350. Other great bullets I've used: Sierra 85 BTHP, Sierra 80 Blitz (great varmint bullet), 100 Sierra Pro Hunter (effective white tail bullet).

well...... :)

here is a $500 Dicks sporting goods Remington 700 "varmint" with only the barrel free-floated.

this is a coyote load.. I like em light and fast, lol.

100 yards,5 shots.
