Just curious, how big are the marksmanship sports and overall shooting culture in Australia? When I think Australia, I think Crocodile Dundee taking out bad guys from 300 offhand with a old Enfield like its nothing... but then see AUS gun laws and think

If our government had its way all firearms would be banned. No Second Amendment rights here sadly.
After the Port Arthur massacre in '96, (very grubby how that came about and who ran it... do not go there...) shooters were portrayed in the media as red necks of limited intelligence and potential nut cases who were a menace to society. Things have slowly improved but the mainstream controlled media never miss an opportunity to kick us in the guts or a bit further down. I guess in that respect we are similar to the US.
There has been steady growth in some shooting sports and the stigma of being a shooter has lessened to some degree, but it is still there thanks to the various governments and the media.
