My advice on finding reloading components.

First......stop complaining and do something about it.

I grew up in the late 60s early 70s. I collected baseball cards. To do so involved saving pennies then going to the store and buying a single pack of cards with that nasty gum. You then hoped you'd find what you needed and if not you'd begin trading for what you needed while saving for another pack. It took lots of time, dedication and patience. You simply couldn't walk in and buy the entire set like you could in the 80s. No different than collecting coins and searching thousands of pennies looking for wheaties.

If you don't have the interest in working hard to find components, you simply won't.

For the past 2 years there is not a single component I have not either bought or had the ability to buy that I was looking for. H1000 had been the unicorn for me until about a month ago then it began popping up. Varget, H4350, H4895, RL26, RL15.5, VVN150, etc. You name it, I've found it. Every primer, brass and even Berger bullet I've found.

How you ask. Simple. Every day I take 5-10 minutes 2 times a day to search 6 sites. It's that simple. I have favorite links set for specific items I'm looking for.....Example.....link to Powder Valley Hodgdon powders. One click and 10 second scroll to see what they have. I usually do it once at the beginning of lunch and again when I get home or later in the evening. If I get few spare minutes here and there I might check a single spot at times. And every place I go the prices are very reasonable and they are well known dealers. And I'm not buying the "limit 2" if it includes hazmat.

The items I pass on would drive most of you crazy but I simply won't buy it if I don't need it. And a couple of weeks ago I decided not to shoot any 6.5 stuff this year so I sold what I had at basically my cost so others could shoot. If I decide to shoot 6.5s in a year or 2 I'm sure I'll find it again.

I'm not camped out at a computer, setting timers to check or anything. I just look when I think about it and trust me, I rarely think about it because I have zero worries that it will pop up eventually.

That's it. As simple as it gets. If you can't commit 20 minutes a day to finding something you really want than I simply don't know what to tell you other than it must not be that important.

Funny thing is that I can still buy ProV1 golf balls at around $50/doz and they have the same labor, transport, etc costs as reloading components. They just aren't hoarded.

Now if you refuse to buy components at todays prices I can't help you there either. $40/lb powder, $85/K primers are kind of the norm. Just like I don't expect to buy Apple stock at $21 a share(adjusted for splits) like I could 10 years ago I won't likely ever see 205Ms for $35/K.

Good luck and shoot straight.

I see primers on a regular basis, sometimes there priced really expensive other days there tolerable, but there out there.
Same thing with powder and other components.......I don't buy as much as I would like to, but most of my disposable income is disappearing.....

Amen brother! Two years of constant, incessant bitching about components has gotten old. Way old.

You are correct. Strangely, I could not bring myself to fill up yesterday. Only bought 60 bucks worth. Didn’t want anyone to call me a gas hoarder. ;)

Gas prices will eventually go down, just like primers and powder.
Ya gas prices will, but not powder and primers. Ya maybe at smaller gun shops but I bet my life on this you won't be seeing places like Powder Valley or all the other big names going down on their Powder and Primer prices.

These increases are cyclical and historically have been influenced by the politics in the whitehouse. World politics also influence prices. When supply exceeds demand the prices will fall. How far is yet to be seen. Remember when oil futures were trading in the negative and crude was 39 bucks a barrel? That was 2020. In 2012, crude got up over 100 bucks a barrel. People seem to forget.

We sometimes loose focus on what is important. My Dad use to say, “a lot of folks buy what they want and beg for what they need.” He also use to say, “I have never seen a Uhaul behind a funeral precession:).”

Buy what you need and can afford. Treat people right. Do what you enjoy and live life to the fullest.

Bob P, you forget one important fact. These days people want everything handed to them on a platter. You must realize, IT IS THEUR RIGHT. I agree with your post. You must be an old guy like me.

Jeff, I feel you are correct, and I can't tell you how many times I've told some of the younger folks that the Constitution doesn't guarantee HAPPINESS only the opportunity to pursue it. I'm not that old either.

I agree. The only thing I have not seen in the last 9 months or so is H4198. I expect it will start showing up at some point.
I agree on the h4198, been looking for awhile for some. Finally broke down and bought some LT-30 at Powder Valley. I dont mind putting in the leg work looking for sumin I need but it does get disheartening some times. Still don't complain though...Much lol...

Yep, that's been a tough one. I had it in my cart at Midsouth months ago but was already using IMR4198 for a smokeless ML so I deleted it since it wasn't a priority and more of a testing different powder want. Haven't seen it for sale since.

Yep. Nowhere to be found. I’ve got a 30BR that I bought from my grandfather last year and I haven’t been able to get any handloads made because I can’t find H4198. I’ll keep checking my front porch 2x a day - eventually it’ll show up.

I have noticed that my two local gun stores, have been getting more of the Barnes bullets in of late, so some are showing, at least it helps us with getting some lead free one's for this commie states lead ban and lead free bullets only for game/hunting.

I've been putting in the work, powder is no longer a problem except slow rifle powders. I still haven't seen H4831sc in more than a year but I did pick up a large quantity of H4831. I haven't seen Re26 in at least 3 years, online or in a store. I love it but no longer work up loads with it as I got a couple pounds that got me hooked then poof, unicorn horn dust.

I have seen H1000 come back in stock several times on Powder Valley but I'm always late to the punch. I've seen Re23 a single time in 2 years, again too late to get any. I had to go with a VV powder as a sub on a new rifle as I did get 5lb of that.

Primers...online I've bought online one time in the past year at PV. Other places I have found in stock a few times, but I refuse to pay $120-140 per thousand. I've bought a few in stores live but have not seen large rifle primers there. Fortunately I have a 4-6 year stock because this isn't my first rodeo.

A local shop here in Ohio got an 8# of 4831SC, my buddy has been searching for some for a new gun. Another buddy was looking for H4350 and they also got 1 8# of it in so two guys needing powder lucked out. A bit more expensive than regular but $285 out the door was very fair. He got 4 1# of 8208 but i only took 2 of them at $40.00 each. First I've seen in a while, gotta keep your feelers out there and help each other out. Don't mind paying a bit more.
