My 2017 project rifle is now finished, well, the one anyhow.
Six months ago a member had an Eliseo RTM tubegun chassis for a Remington LA sale here. I had wanted one for some time, so I bought it.
About the same time, another member had a factory take off Remington heavy barrel in 300 WM for a hundred bucks. So, I bought it.
Four months ago, a member had a new, take off 700 LA with mag bolt face and trigger for $325, so I bought it.
Three months ago, a member had a Vortex Viper HS-T for sale. A VHS 6-24 X 50. We negotiated a mutually acceptable price, so I bought it.
Same time frame, a member had 350 brand new, primed FGMM 300 WM cases for 50-cents a piece if you bought them all. So, I bought them.
I did buy one new item, the MOE Rifle butt stock, from Brownells. It weighs 11.6 pounds, with a full 5-round magazine, but no sights.
With a bit of assistance from Gary Eliseo, I got it assembled and went shooting, most recently this morning. Well under moa at 100.
It has really been a lot of fun searching for parts and building this rifle from scratch. The only issue with the system, is replacing the factory lug, with a custom one Gary makes. They have to be the same thickness. Buying the parts, I did not get one. You have to screw the barrel on, check the headspace with go/no-go gauges, and measure the gap between barrel and action to send to Gary to machine one that is the same thickness. So headspacing is job that requires a gunsmith that can accurately measure down to four decimal places with the barrel on the action.
My thanks to all of you who got me the necessary parts to make this a reality. Especially to Gary Eliseo.
