This saga started back in June when l found a 700 Rem 223 varmint barreled action on an auction site... Thought l got it at a good price too. Just one problem.. NO bolt. Found a bolt on THIS forum. Thanks Larry!! Next l needed a Stock... Not just any stock either.. l wanted a GOOD stock.. Back on the net I find an HS Precision M24 design stock. lts used but like new.. Last but not least was bottom metal/trigger guard hardware... The BDL floor plate was hardest item to find at a reasonable price...
After bolting everything together my parts gun and mounting a scope l went to Shooters Outdoor Range on Tuesday... Sighted in/zeroed scope for 100yds... My first 3 shot group was a very satisfying .665''! No special tuning or experimenting... Just some Hornady 60gr SPs, H4895, Fed 223 brass, and a CCI450 primer.. Most amazing fact was a 223 bolt from last year would fit perfectly in a 2006 built barreled action and shoot so GOOD!! That says MUCH about Remington's fine machining. ln the end l could have gotten a 5R 700 for about the same money.. l would NOT have gotten the knowledge and experience tho... ln the end l had FUN and LEARNED too...
