MY 25 X 47 LAPUA BUILD & LOAD WORK-UP

** UPDATE ON THESE **
Sierra sent an e-mail saying they are replacing these with NEW all same lot # bullets. Apparently they were able to find an issue as well. Probably will go back and re-test at some point.
UPS says delivery on these tomorrow. So I will re-test them and see how they look on paper. Probably gonna be hard to out-perform the Bergers but we will see soon.

Well, just realized I have a bad batch of these Sierra 131 gr. MK bullets. Should have measured this before I started loading but I measured from base to tip. Was checking to see if my lands had moved back with the Wheeler Method and saw shorter numbers than I originally saw up front. Deductive reasoning says that my chamber is not shrinking so I started looking elsewhere. Measured 20 bullets that I was about to load and realized the variance was a whopping .010 from base to ogive over the 20 count. Seating bullets measuring from case base to ogive with Sinclair tool but unfortunately that will not correct the issue. Stopping with this bullet and going to Berger 135 gr. LRHT.
Did they say or give any Lot#'s that were affected by this bad batch of 131 MK's. I bought some back when they were available just to have but they've been sitting on the shelf since getting them. I think I opened a box just to look at them then put them on the shelf. Maybe I should go measure some and see if any I have are from the bad batch.

No info given on how many or lot numbers were bad.

I measured the ones in the box I had opened (015835962) and with my 25 cal comparator they were .7365 - .7390 base to ogive and the bullet OAL ranged from 1.4130 - 1.4175 I didn't open the other box (015835933) and measure any of them but maybe I should.

There was a partial box of Hornady 134's on my bench so I grabbed a handful of them and they were all .7515 base to ogive except one that was .7505 and their OAL was 1.455 - 1.4555.

For fun grabbed a handful of 138 A-Tip they were all dead nuts .7640 base to ogive and OAL 1.461 with one being 1.4065

That's the stock I sent you pictures of and told ya I thought yours would look better red. Lol
One of these days I'll do a red 1 for ya.
Sounds like a plan but I'm not completely over the idea of Black fading into Silver yet. LOL.

Just received the new replacement 131 gr. Sierra MK by UPS. Measured 10 random bullets from base to ogive and found .003 variance between the 10. Much better than the previous batch but will still need to sort to get best results. Re-testing seat depth when weather clears up. Lots of rain today and possibly tomorrow as well.

O K, not real sure this bullet will shoot with the Bergers but this new lot is definitely an improvement over the original ones we had. Seat depth went well and this bullet is liking .013 OTL as those original ones had shown us when I stopped testing and M V, E S, & S Ds are more consistent than the others ones as well.

Did not abandon this rifle and testing but have been spending my time with the new "Uncle Bill" rifle presented to me last week by Zack (ODCR) and other counter parts who contributed to that cause. Managed to get the scope mounted, bore-sighted and fired the very first and very cool 5-shot group with blowing out brass that measured a cool .093 @ 100 yds. today. Plan to get back to this one soon at 300 yds. when weather cools on down a tad more.
