Well, I didn't get a deer... but I did miss school! Well, work.
What a great trip even though I came up empty handed. First day scouting I came upon a really big bobcat sitting on a fallen tree. Watch him for about 15 minutes before he realized I was there and slipped under the tree.
Found a cave under a rock facing... cousin said it is a known bear cave. Nice!
Also found a really nice row of rubs along a ridge running about 100-150 yards. See Rubs 1a. I was excited to find these. Decided to hunt this deer. Let the area sit a few days before going in with my stand. First morning in the buck tore up another tree right behind me - about 50 yards or so and just over the ridge. Just on the other side of wild blueberry bushes. Didn't see him. Saw his calling card on my way out. Last day a doe came in from a direction running with the rub line.... he never showed. Oh, if I only had another week.
Rut was not active but just starting to show signs of kicking in. But what a wonderful time in the woods.
