Man you set that rifle up right. I am trying to head in that direction with my AR. Get that gun to the range with some match ammo and post how it did.:thumb:

Took the Rifle to the range yesterday.

Did some testing.

A Brass Catcher is defiantly a NEED TO HAVE item.

I feel that the mesh one will get burned / melted unless it is made from Kevlar or something.

Just curious how you like the magpul stock. I have an AR-6 and was thinking about your stock but didn't want to spend the bucks without some feedback.
Thanks

Well I have never had one before but I can tell you this.... I like the options that this stock offers the shooter. I wish that I could have found one in Black but I had to take what I could find at the time.

Here are a couple of loads that work in this Rifle.

I am using Sierra 39 gr Blitzkings.

Remember... use this data at your own risk.... reduce loads 10% before using in your Rifle.

I cannot speak to the bullets he is using, but I test fired his upper before I sent it to him and it did what they just about all do which is shoot a 5 shot group in a cluster that can be covered by a dime. The basic test fire load I used was 24 gr of N133, with a BR-4 primer and a Sierra 32 gr BlitzKing, about .010' off the lands, around 2.245' OAL).

I have to say, I have test fired a lot of these 20 Practical uppers for group and as a group they are very accurate - real fun to work with and shoot.

I am using 39 gr Blitzkings.

I would have used the N133 and BR4's but I only had a few of the primers and none of the powder.

I tested the H335 and 205M combo to find the max load / pressure limitations.

The pictures tell the story.

Look out Varmints... the Practical is coming for you!

Field Report....

Friday...
I took my rifle out to Roanoke Rifle to check my loads at 500 yards and check my drop chart.

I was busting Clays consistently at 500 yards.

I was shooting from a Bipod and a rear bag.

Saturday...
Took out the 20 Practical today for it's first hunt.

I double checked my dope and zero which was set at 200 yards.

I fired a three shot group at 200 yards that had all three shots making a nice little cloverleaf with all shots cutting each other.

I dialed in some elevation to check my drop chart and dialed back to my zero and fired three more shots at the center of my clover leaf.

Two of the shots went into the group just slightly enlarging it and the third shot got blown out by and undetected blast of wind down range.

The group was still under 1/2 MOA. The main cluster would have been hidden under a dime!

Some observations...

I had the GG&G 20 MOA rail on my rifle along with a Leupold 6.5-20,1' tube) riding in a set of MarkIV rings I had laying around. Well the 20 MOA induced by the rail cause some binding of the windage adjustments so I removed the rail and reinstalled the scope. The binding disappeared after making the needed adjustments to put me back on target.

I had also bought one of those hard plastic brass catchers. It is a nice set up but the mouth of the cases get beat up some. I am going to have to stick a pencil or something in the mouth of the case to round it out so that I can size it. I am going to look at a different catcher.... one that will be easier on my brass.

The Groundhogs were not very cooperative / plentiful today. We only had 7 or 8 opportunities between the two of us and we had several rifles that we wanted to shoot today.
I hit a Groundhog at 465 yards but it made it to the Den, he was a foot from the Den, so diving in was easily done) and there was no blood. I assume that the little 39 grain Blitzking would have not made an exit with a solid body hit.

I will be putting a Nightforce on this rifle as soon as my wallet allows me to.
,I know the posted picture of the rifle shows a Nightforce but it was borrowed from my other Groundhog rifle for the photo).
Having the NP-R1 Reticle sure helps out when you need to hold off for varying wind conditions and when spotting your shots and making corrections.

Overall I feel that this Rifle is a very capable 400 yard Groundhog Rifle with rapid follow up shot capability.

I will need some more kill shots to evaluate the performance level of the 39 grain Blitzking though.

I might even try out some Berger 40 grainers while I'm at it.

i have killed a dozen of whistle pigs at 300 to 525 yds with 39 grain sierra blitz kings and absolutely smoked them, never lost one yet, nock on wood) awesome round, i havent picked up my 223 or 22-250 since getting my 204 and thats been 5 years almost. couldnt be happier.

I just finished one using an upper from Robert Whitley. What a really nice piece of work. I used a floating handguard, GS&S rail, Krieger barrel from White oak Armament and an A2 stock. It has a Sightron Big Sky 36X sitting on it.
Iwasteda whole lot of time prepping military brass for it only to find that I couldn't bump the shoulder enough to get it to chamber. I finally pitched it, ordered some new Winchester brass and I'm off and running. All I had to do was neck size it to get it to chamber. I would like to hear what you guys who are shooting this caliber in an AR are using for load data. Other than what was given in the writeup, data for it is pretty scarce.
I'm also wondering how safe it would be to use the data from the 20 Tactical since the only difference is the shoulder angle on the brass. The Practical keeps the 23 degree shoulder while the tactical hasa 30 degree shoulder. How much pressure difference and in which direction would there be?

I can't wait to break this puppy in..

Kimberguy,
I would suggest starting out with the H335. I started out wtih 39 BKs and H4198. I didn't have the results I was looking for. I switch to H335 and it worked out great. I think I can get the 32s to work with the H4198. I have heard good things from R10X too.
I have also used the tatical reloading information for a guide also.
