Muzzle breaks

Firing up this dead thread to ask a question. These Harrel brakes sem well thought of, but looks to me that they cost less because the are not finished and require gunsmith instillation. I don't do 80% uppers either. Why doesn't he bore them out to caliber and then turn me loose with a crush washer? I would get one from Nathan, but he strangely does not offer 5/8x32tpi. Harrel does, I just don't want a inexpensive brake I have to go get $50 plus bucks worth of work on to use.

Did you call Nathan and ask him if he would thread one 5/8x32 tpi for you?

I have a Harrell’s brake on a 30-06 that recoils like a .243. Anyone that says you need spend a bundle on on a muzzle brake is wrong in a big way!!

I dont have a 5/8×32 thread gauge. I ordered one, waited forever, and it never showed up so I cancelled the order. I haven't had a chance to track down another one since then.

It would be nice if the barrel companies would quit trying to reinvent the wheel and stick to the most popular thread sizes. Most of the odd ball stuff is on AR's it seems.

I put my first harrells brake on last weekend on a 300 win mag for my father in law and it tamed it way down. For $34 dollars it's a bargain

Cause the bored hole should be lined up with bore. Matt

For normal muzzle brakes I have had good experiences with patriot valley arms. But in general if you can suppress then that will cut the recoil a bit more, in which case you basically are with whatever works for your suppressor.

I was shooting my .300 WM in prone today. 208 Amax and a stiff load of Ramshot Magnum. No brake, that joker will thump you, especially with a torn rotator cuff. It will be getting a brake. It and I shot it great all the way to 1000.

A suppressor will never reduce as much recoil as a good brake. PVA brakes are 90 degree brakes and won't reduce the recoil that a brake with angled back ports will.

you folks should try the heathen brake, nice nice nice
better than the apa little bugger brake,
there are reviews out there for your viewing pleasure

Pretty pricy brakes. I've never seen reviews on them. Hard to believe paying 225.00 vs 40-85.00 will give a rifle a better system than Nathan's or Ross' brakes. Have to check out some reviews.

For the money it’s awful hard to beat ross’s Breaks. He even tapers his break to your specified diameter when u buy one of his breaks. I’ve never had one of Nathan’s breaks but I’m sure their good too.

For a lot of info on muzzle brakes you might check out info from Precision Rifle Blog:

Very familiar with the a.p.a. little BASTARD.
I need a muzzle break that will tame a BIG .30 CAL BUT don't want to break the bank. Apa is my first choice, I know they work.
What are some more choices.that my wife could use on a wsm so she can elk hunt.

Just received one of Ross's brakes for my 338. Looks good. I have a couple others from different companies and the Ross Brake looks like a better design. Can't wait to give it a try.
