muzzle break help

I am looking for a muzzle break to put on a tactical rifle. It will be shot from the ground so I would like to a break that isnt going to stir up alot of dust. Also I am looking for a break that will not be extremely hard on the ears. Can you guys make some recomendations.

Thanks

Muzzle breaks and noise are mutually exclusive. You can't have one without the other. Better use ear plugs and ear muffs together if you want that!!

I installed a Shrewd Precision varmint brake on a friend's 300 SAUM a couple of years ago, and he's been quite pleased with it. The model I used has 21 ports on each side, so they don't kick up much dust.

The Vais brake probably produces less muzzle blast than the Shrewd, but it has ports all around, so will result in more dust signature. I don't think there's yet been a brake designed that's going to let you have your cake & eat it at the same time.

I've been doing some research regarding muzzle brakes.
I have a 300 win mag Remington 700 hunting rifle with a hart barrel that is relatively light weight and very abusive to shoot.

Here is what I learned so far -

Shrewd brake with the holes was insanely noisy. The kick was reduced a fair amount. Bad to shoot prone due to dust. Must use ear plugs and muffs. Tried it with only plugs and my ears rang for a long time.

Gentry quiet brake was less noisy than the shrewd and I had them not put holes on the bottom for prone shooting so the dust would be ok. The only problem is it didn't really cut the recoil much.

OPS, Inc. brake was much better for the dust and the noise. You can shoot it with ear plugs only and not be deaf for a week. It works real well for the muzzle rise but not too well for the recoil. Still kicks a lot less than the rifle without the brake.

Defensive Edge gunsmithing. So far the best one I have tried. The noise is not bed for the shooter, you can use ear plugs only. But don't stand to the side of the shooter with only ear plugs on. The recoil is a lot better.

I am getting ready to try the vais brake in a couple weeks.

Defensive edge gunsmithing break..does it have holes in the bottom...thanks alot you have been very helpful. This break is going on a 15lb 6.5x47...so the recoil isnt going to be to bad to begin with..my goal is to elimate enough punch to spot my hits on hogs.

tames the recoil of my 338 LM to 243 Win levels.

It is still noisy, but there is no dust kick up as the lower portion of the brake is solid all blast is directed upwards or to the rear via the vents.

The brake is made in the UK and sold by a company caller Jager Sporting Arms.

It is a clamp fit, although I have threaded this one to fit the barrel thread on the 338,which I also built)

Side view - sorry I havent a close up of just the side of the brake, but you should get the idea
